Please Share 3 Things You Appreciate about Being Old
It's Thanksgiving, so I'm looking at the positive. Some folks don't like the word "old" but I don't mind it. You can substitute "aging" if you prefer! I'm thrilled to be 71 and looking at 72. Due to serious health concerns in my youth I never expected to make it this far. So here goes--and I hope you can join in.
My Three Positive Things
1. I know what my ethics and beliefs are, and I'm no longer worried I might betray them because of outside pressure.
2. I can tell a good story based on life experience.
3. I'm less self critical. My mom told me that if she made a mistake she'd say "you're so clumsy" to herself. When she turned 80 she changed and told herself "you're doing great!"

@joanland Great story. I will remember this when I reach out for my cell phone. Thanks!
Love being smarter than anyone else I’ve truly found wisdom comes with age .
2 ) I enjoy being G G to my beautiful 4 year old great Granddaughter .
3 j probably shouldn’t say it but looking and doing a lot better than those 15 years younger .
Being blessed with good health is the greatest gift .

7 Reactions1. Retired so no need to set the alarm and I can stay up as late as I want. I'm a night owl by nature.
2. I have time to cook all I want and try new recipes, which my husband always supports.
3. I have time for my online cribbage addiction and make acquaintances there. If anyone likes cribbage, ecribbage.com is like no other site. Safe, family oriented; web master is a Christian. If you mistreat people you will be blocked from the site.
Guess I got off track. I hope this is okay to post.

2 ReactionsI need to add to my list - old friends - those who have raised families, faced challenges, and shared adventures together.
We spent our 44th New Years' Eve with those friends last night.

2 Reactions😂, I'm sorry for laughing but that's the first thing I started to do when I tried to think about good things on aging, I am 76. Ok, now I will look at the good things about getting older, before I retired my life was always was on the clock, now I can relax a bit on that point. If I'm extra tired from working in the garden or some other chore, I am free to take a nape or sleep-in the next day. I have more time for my friends, reading, art, gardening, and doing projects around the home. Finally was able to take time to get both my knees replaced, and a much needed hysterectomy. My next project, this January, painting my bedroom. 😁

5 ReactionsThe Golden Years have taught me the following:
1. I have learned that age offers better degrees of wisdom. Looking back on selected experiences helps
2. I have learned to pause more before I make a decision. Before, I used to just use snap judgements at times
3. I have learned to appreciate others more. I think being more patient and tolerant has helped me learn.
4. My mother who was active until 92 used to say, “We are as old as we feel.” I am 86 and I now agree with her.
Finally,
5. I have learned with age to relax more and do nothing at times.
. An old Mexican proverb is “Que bonito no hacer nada y luego descansar.” How beautiful to do nothing and then REST. Amen!

8 Reactions@captboat Hey that is a spectacular crash. Great story!!!! I have never met anybody in all my travels who has dropped so many eggs. It makes me feel a bit better about the things I drop, like just a bit of outmeal on my shirt or a few crumbs of croissant in my lap. Nothing by comparison with your egg mess. Did they fire you or give you an award?

2 Reactions@maryje At 77 I enjoy the nap-time as well. Was raised w/out TV so enjoy bingeing some shows..usually at 2AM. Or whenever I feel
like it. It’s also very nice to say ‘no thank you’ to energy wasting requests.
