Please Share 3 Things You Appreciate about Being Old
It's Thanksgiving, so I'm looking at the positive. Some folks don't like the word "old" but I don't mind it. You can substitute "aging" if you prefer! I'm thrilled to be 71 and looking at 72. Due to serious health concerns in my youth I never expected to make it this far. So here goes--and I hope you can join in.
My Three Positive Things
1. I know what my ethics and beliefs are, and I'm no longer worried I might betray them because of outside pressure.
2. I can tell a good story based on life experience.
3. I'm less self critical. My mom told me that if she made a mistake she'd say "you're so clumsy" to herself. When she turned 80 she changed and told herself "you're doing great!"

4 ReactionsIt is great fun to remember, with my age mates (I'm 85) phone booths, dial phones, and back to our early phone with a a wood boxe on the wall, a speaker coming out from the wood backboard, and the ear piece on a cord. We would ring for the operator and giving her the number I wanted to call; however, we could call some neighbors w/o ringing for the operator. Our number was 13X4 = 13 means line 13, x= 1 long ring, and 4 = 4 short rings. We'd answer the phone when we heard 1 long ring and 4 short rings. Good friends were 13X3 witch means they were also on line 13, and we could reach them by ringing 1 long ring and 3 short rings; we didn't have to call central for the operator to ring them.
I didn't answer the phone by myself until I was a grade schooler. It was too high on the wall for a child to answer. We lived on a farm and one of my jobs was to collect the eggs from the hen house. One day I had picked up the eggs in the hen house and put them in the big apron I had on. Walking back to the farm house, I heard the phone ringing and it was 1 long and 4 shorts. I entered the house, first through the wood shed, then through the screen porch, through the kitchen, and finally into the living room where the phone was up on the wall. When I reached up to pick up the receiver, I let go of a corner of the apron and 10 or so eggs fell to the floor. What a mess I created by trying to be helpful!

I’m only 82 but your egg story reminds me of my egg story. I was on a basketball scholarship at a low budget school, so a job was part of the scholarship. I worked at an egg farm in Oregon. My job was to box the eggs after they were “candled” (checked to insure no chicken). Well, this was a Friday night and there was a party. I was in a big hurry and the box had 60 dozen eggs. It was on a hand truck and it tipped forward…I had no choice! I DROPPED 60 DOZEN EGGS!!! To add insult to injury I only had paper towels, a broom, and a dust pan to clean up. It took me most of the night!
NO PARTY.

You just said what I feel as well. I think as we get older we tend to be feel free of cumbersome thoughts. We can write them down or just go on! I love the fact that through my 70 plus years I have learned so many things and still feel young. Life has changed as we get older..but uf the phone rings, you don't have to answer it ! If someone is being obnoxious, you can tune them out or leave their presence. I can be alone and always find something to do!! That being said, being alone for me is peaceful. A time to pray for things that burden me or for thanking God for the blessings that have come my way. I am a caregiver, wife, mother, daughter and friendships that mean so much. We have children and grandchildren we love dearly. I hope that everyone has a beautiful Christmas this year. Especially since I missed the wonderful comments if Thanksgiving. 🫂💞

13 ReactionsI am happy and even proud to be 77 years old because;
I have grown to be content with who I am and what I’ve accomplished. I still pursue goals and make plans for the future.
I have grown to become a student of plants and growing things and not just a weekend gardener.
I have grown patient and accepting of the varied facets of mankind.

@eastiegirl -- Read your above post. Didn't get: "my own "A" "D."
Please fill me in. (Maybe I'm the only one here in the dark about what you wrote.) I was curious.
Thank you for expanding my abbreviations list. ;>)

@sillyblone so true are your words. We have earned this privilege, we honor ourselves, and those who are worthy of that honor. A blessed Christmas, and a blessed season's greetings to all.
