Please help me - Issues with Mayo accepting Medicare Advantage

Posted by azaz @azaz, Sep 24, 2012

I have been severely ill for almost 6 years. My doctors recommend I be seen at Mayo Clinic for further testing & treatment by a neuromuscular specialist. When I contact Mayo Clinic they tell me they do not accept Medicare Advantage patients, which is my only insurance and even has out of network coverage. Even if I offer to pay the entire clinic cost out of pocket myself, Mayo said they would not see me. I am a person in my early 30’s who has been left mostly bedridden due to medical problems that need further testing & treatment, yet I cannot be seen at Mayo Clinic due to my insurance. I even have a Mayo clinic number already and the Arizona clinic is only a few hour trip for me. It is going to be very difficult for me to make a trip of that distance, so seeking care elsewhere at someplace even further away isn’t really an option. Plus, Mayo Clinic is where my drs. feel I should be seen. Mayo Clinic, your website states that your primary value is “the needs of the patient come first.” This patient desperately needs testing and treatment at your facility. I am begging you to please help me. PLEASE. If there is anyone I can contact for assistance with this or if anyone has any ideas that may help, please let me know. I would like to get the treatment I need so that I can be well enough to be a productive member of society again and be able to devote my life to helping others. Please help me so that I may help others. Thank you so much for your time.

I am on medicare. I was told not to get the advantage plan or I couldn’t be seen. So see how to drop the advantage part of medicare. Then Mayo will see you. I am a yr n half since my heart transplant. I wish you luck.

Thanks for posting your concerns. Did you speak with one of the Mayo patient financial representatives at 480-301-7033? They may be able to suggest another option for you. Here’s a link to more information on Mayo’s charity care program
