Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

My constantly running nose and phlegm in throat have returned again. Ugh…..As did my numbness in feet. That’s better though today. My sleep has improved and I feel great. Just these annoying symptoms.

Yes to post nasal drip and mucous/phlegm! Ugh... Agree that I should own stock in Kleenex...lol I postulated to my ENT that these were Long Covid manifestations because I didn't have them pre-Covid. Good to have my "theory" confirmed that there are other LC sufferers experiencing that same thing, but sorry that you are in fact suffering.

This is why I came online to see if anyone else had these same concerns as I do. The overload of mucus sometimes make me nauseous. I totally agree and claim all the symptoms in which you describe them. What is going on. I've had multiple diffrent types of albuterol inhalers and flonase and some others. NOTHING CLEARS IT UP!

I think meds could help me, but meds that address it, cause me worse problems. I have Salzmann’s nodules and severe dry eye that I treat daily. They are chronic conditions. I can’t take antihistamines because they dry my eyes further and Flonase causes me blurred vision. It’s very frustrating.

I have had this, too. I really feel for you. Someone on here posted that is related to acid reflux and not the sinus. He said a pulmonary specialist told him that it is laryngopharaengeal reflux.
When I read about it, it sounded apt.

Found this:

"In non-intubated patients with COVID-19 infection, vocal fatigue, dry throat, increased phlegm production, dysphonia, cough, rhinitis, and dysphagia have been reported as direct symptoms of the virus [18], [20], [21], [22]"

Thanks for reminding me of this. I will bring it up again at my next ENT visit. He examined me before and ran tube up my nose and looked at throat and saw nothing unusual. I reported problem then, wondering if it was an allergy. I was there for smell/taste disorder and he diagnosed post covid syndrome.

I must’ve missed that post in here but do you know if there was any rx or procedure that helped resolve it?

Has anyone here found that exercise helps this condition? I’ve found that if I’m physically active I feel so much better. I go to water aerobics classes 2-3x/wk and feel great while I’m active. Doing yard work is another activity I do on repeat. Again I feel great. But as soon as I calm down it starts back up. I really am giving up on all the specialists but I do have an EGD scheduled with GI in July. And I’m still working with allergy/immunology.

I do not know. You should read up on laryngopharaengeal reflux yourself.

Oh I definitely have and reflux is always treated with H2 blockers first and PPIs if the H2 blockers aren’t effective. My condition as many others in this forum goes beyond, or defies, typical protocol. I’ve recently started an rx for cromolyn sodium liquid and I’m feeling pretty good about it for anyone who hasn’t yet heard of it ( I know there was a guy who talked about the cromolyn nasal spray but the liquid works directly in the stomach). I just hoped there was something new I hadn’t yet tried or heard of. Thanks anyway!
