Tests indicate Alzheimer's: Any thoughts on Leqembi and Kisunla?
My wife tested positive for AD in a blood test about 6 weeks ago and was put on Donepezil. Now she had a PET scan which confirmed that result, she scored 3, which is positive for AD. Perhaps mild at this time. She is 70. She is doing a neuropsychological written test this week, and then we meet with the neurologist a week later to discuss everything and plan for treatment. They are suggesting going on these other two drugs, through infusion therapy apparently. I would appreciate any advice about these two meds and our situation in general. Pretty upsetting for her and me.

My DH is trying to decide whether to choose Leqembi or Kisunla (or no infusions at all). He is on 5 mg of Aricept right now - the 10 mg dose gave him insomnia. He was diagnosed with MCI due to Alzheimer's, his Amyloid PET and genetic testing results (e3/e4) added more data for the diagnosis.
I would love to hear/read more of others' experiences with the IV infusion therapies, positive or negative. The more info we have the better. Thank you all for what you've shared with us so far!
Hi Paul55, I go to my first MRI Thursday. I'll hopefully be going on Leqembi by August or so. Luckily we are less than a mile from the MRI center and only 5 or 6 miles from where I'll get infusions. Our doctor in Santa Fe says she has 25 people on one or the other of the infusion drugs...pretty amazing. I'm curious as to if you have children/grands. How do you tell them so they don't refuse to let you drive their children to places or have them spend the night? I have been on Donepizil 5mg for about a year and we haven't told them yet...I have basically very few symptoms, drive, cook, etc. We cruise quite a bit and take other trips, although I don't like driving much more than a few hours at once...And have you told your friends and other family? I think this part is as scary as the diagnosis...
@callmzi Hi I, too, am on 5 mg Aricept and have been for a year. Thursday I go for an MRI which will help determine if I go on Leqembi or not. I am e3/e3, high Amyloid count, still driving, etc...hard to get set up for infusion therapy but there aren't a lot of choices so we're all trying whatever they come up with. I'll let folks know how the infusions go if I get on them. If anyone has thoughts on how to break this to grown children, let me hear from you. I'm 79, son is 40 with 2 little ones. Do things change when they get the news.? Take care.
