@cmyrule ... think I was supposed to put that in front of my comment. Sorry.

This seems like a good place to post this as it is related to balance. I saw one of my neurologists today and had her go over the MRI that was done on my lumbar spine. (If you have balance problems start there.) She pointed out where the ganglions were being pinched on exiting the spinal cord as a likely start of my balance problem. She did not offer any treatment for this. Any thoughts?

@suetex Yes they have some very good exercises to help balance. Go to your local hospital they often run programs for the public (hopefully they do the USA) @wenner

It has been my experience, after years of dealing with peripheral neuropathy, that it may not be easily treatable! My Neutologist, my family Doctor, and my Orthopedic Doctor have not been forthcoming in giving me any viable treatments, that help, the pain, numbness, sensations of voltage (buzzing), going down one or more of my limbs. So, after years of questioning the Docs, I don’t even bring it up anymore! I’m at the age where the Docs have backed off treatments, for various ailments. Instead, I get a placating, wellness check - nothing thoroughly investigated or treated, anymore! Having shooting, buzzing like discomfort, especially in my arms and legs, and no answers, or help, or even understanding from medical providers, can be, and is most disheartening, so I empathize with the plight, of many, who suffer from peripheral neuropathy!

In my search for cause of my trygeminal neuralgia I learned that alcohol reduces absorbtion of B12 thru intestine. B12 makes blood cells AND MYELIN. Myelin is a fat that costs out nerves. When it has been lost, nerves are being touch or rubbed by adjacent tissue like muscle. I suspect u have and still drink alcohol. My Dr has written in my file just last week NON DRINKER. So try taking B12 supplement. Worked for me an 83 yr old.

@jamessaxo Thanks! I so appreciate your supportive commentary! I have been taking B-12 Vitamin supplements now, for a few weeks, and I do believe it helps, in regards to a lessening of peripheral neuropathy symptoms! Thanks again!

I focus on balance exercises, physical therapy, and supportive footwear. Regular stretching and using a cane or walker when needed also help a lot. Managing blood sugar and checking in with a neurologist make a big difference too.

I wear very thin footwear that allows me to “feel” the ground. I have figured out for me that the nerve connection still exists if I pay attention to the “shock” signals that the soles of my feet send up my leg. The knee & upper leg nerves can pick up that signal from my feet.

The rest is just concentrating & learning how different surfaces now feel to me. Gravel vs pavement vs asphalt vs carpet grass, etc. For me, carpet grass poses some of the weirdest sensations. How far did I really sink into this? Is the ground finally solid? Is my left foot level with my right?

God help me if the carpet grass is on a sloping lawn also.
