Post-COVID Syndrome is real

Posted by nant @nant, Jul 26, 2021

I had covid mid April and have had many PCS symptoms. I seem to be educating my doctors and therapists. Sometimes it feels like they think I am faking and the next time they tell me they have heard the same thing from others. I am doing everything from aqua therapy, speech therapy for the "fog" and still exhausted, headaches, fog and not sleeping well ect. I have used my short term disability at work and working thru my PTO time. I am more than frustrated. Any encouragement?

Hi. Post Covid symptoms are awful. I did the vaccine Jan/Feb plus never stopped wearing a good mask in all public places--actually I went out very seldom. Labor Day weekend I became SOB, chills pus all of the other common symptoms so isolated completely. I called several test areas but could not get a test for a week, so waited, by the time i did get to test I was feeling better except for chest fullness, severe cough and SOB, all which make sleep impossible , I feel awful but feel the help lines don't believe there are post covid symptoms just complaining patients, I've lost 3 very good friends to covid, plus 3 more with long term problems. Covid is real, I no longer speak to my friends who refuse to be vaccinated-I still would not wish this HELL on those stupid people. I need to find a quick stop clinic that gives an hour of O2 so people like me can just get through the day. To answer your question before you ask--Yes I got covid from an unvaccinated relative that laughed when I told him I was sick. All he had was a headache.

Hi Lucy, I’m sitting here just shaking my head with sadness after reading your comment. Your story is another tragic reminder that this virus is still alive and thriving. I can feel your hurt, frustration, betrayal and anger over having gotten the virus after all the precautions you’ve taken, only to get it from an unvaccinated relative.

I guess there is no reason for my reply except to commiserate with you over the lack of respect for others and a willingness to help bring this virus under control by a surprising number of the population. I’ve also lost friends to the virus and lost friends because they refuse to believe science and statistics. It feels like a slap in the face after all I’ve gone through just to stay alive the past 2 years only to have my closest friend deny the pandemic, telling me that my husband and I are missing out on life by being forced to wear masks, get vaccinated and avoiding getting together with these friends. We can’t take that chance. Your story of contracting the virus through an unvaccinated relative just cements why we need to stay vigilant regardless off the naysayers.

I really hope you feel better soon and so glad you’ve reached out to Mayo Clinic Connect. By the way, welcome! My work has now let me go after 23 years because i am unable to work because of long haulers. I used all my FLMA & PTO now i add am seeking disability and am overwhelmed with all the paperwork, doctor appointments therapies and just the pain fatigue headaches and anxiety. No one can tell me when i will get better. I have good days and bad. Usually pay for the good days with 2 or more bad days. Sorry to dump but it is almost 2 AM and i am exhausted but cannot sleep, again.

When you said i just want to feel normal it made me smile. My mom used to read a lot and one christian comedian writer she used to read once had a book called "Normal is just a setting on the dryer". Miss my mom, fun to smile thru the pain.

Have you reached out to find a post-Covid/long-Covid treatment program? I would certainly say you are a candidate for evaluation, at least.

I hear that it can be very difficult, especially when you have so much fatigue and brain fog. It is definitely a two steps forward, one step back sort of dance, isn't it?

My daughter has had post-Covid symptoms since April 2020, but with help they are slowly improving. The one thing we all recognize is that her ADD is very much worse, and she is having trouble getting it back under control. She is also working toward going back to finish another nursing degree - she has been unable to concentrate on reading textbooks since her illness, and had to drop out of the program she had nearly finished.

Welcome, Bosley. Sorry to hear that you've been dealing with long COVID for over 11 months now. What symptoms are you dealing with? What helps?
