Post-COVID Syndrome is real

Posted by nant @nant, Jul 26, 2021

I had covid mid April and have had many PCS symptoms. I seem to be educating my doctors and therapists. Sometimes it feels like they think I am faking and the next time they tell me they have heard the same thing from others. I am doing everything from aqua therapy, speech therapy for the "fog" and still exhausted, headaches, fog and not sleeping well ect. I have used my short term disability at work and working thru my PTO time. I am more than frustrated. Any encouragement?

Fatigue and shortness of breath

bosley: I, too, was dealing with shortness of breath and major fatigue issues for months after my bout with covid. Tired of dealing with it, I finally asked my PCP if ANYTHING else could account for my ongoing symptoms. Probably to mollify me, she ordered an upper chest x-ray. Imagine our shock and surprise when it revealed a neoplasm suspicious for cancer in my right upper lung. Further testing, etc, confirmed the diagnosis. I'm stage 3 and in treatment now. Your result doesn't have to be the same as mine; I only mention it to encourage you to take the steps necessary to at least rule it out! Good luck to you.

I’m in the same boat.. it’s crazy I’m 13 months in.. I do pilates and follow intuitive fasting. We are teaching them and we know better than we them. You are not alone crazy or faking it. I use essential oil. I think what we need to do is not feel compelled to educate those who choose ignorance. FYI a MRI with and without contrast showed 13 lesions on my brain.

Also from a post Covid clinic in Lakeland I started taking over the counter Pepcid 20mg Benadryl 25mg and Zyrtec 1 tab. It really helped me sleep better and magnesium helped too.

Hi I too am a long hauler. Never had lung issues until august 3 of last year when I was hospitalized for COVID Pneumonia…thank God for Mayo and their long haulers research and clinic,. I am finally getting a little bit of relief! I am over a year now but there is light at the end of this tunnel. Please stay strong and keep fighting for answers. The doctors at Mayo are fantastic and diligent to help people with this syndrome! Bless all of them and stay safe!

My COPD continues to get worse after a 10 months of my having had COVID-19. My O2 sats always stayed above 88 but no more unless I have oxygen. Also, my feet have started to swell and my tinnitus has got worse. Wish we had a MAYO clinic here in Tucson.

You are not that far away! It is quite possibly worth your time and energy to make the trek to Mayo in Phoenix. For an appointment to be evaluated, click here: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Hi Lucy, I’m sitting here just shaking my head with sadness after reading your comment. Your story is another tragic reminder that this virus is still alive and thriving. I can feel your hurt, frustration, betrayal and anger over having gotten the virus after all the precautions you’ve taken, only to get it from an unvaccinated relative.

I guess there is no reason for my reply except to commiserate with you over the lack of respect for others and a willingness to help bring this virus under control by a surprising number of the population. I’ve also lost friends to the virus and lost friends because they refuse to believe science and statistics. It feels like a slap in the face after all I’ve gone through just to stay alive the past 2 years only to have my closest friend deny the pandemic, telling me that my husband and I are missing out on life by being forced to wear masks, get vaccinated and avoiding getting together with these friends. We can’t take that chance. Your story of contracting the virus through an unvaccinated relative just cements why we need to stay vigilant regardless off the naysayers.

I really hope you feel better soon and so glad you’ve reached out to Mayo Clinic Connect. By the way, welcome! My husband and I were vaccinated, yet contracted covid. After 3 months of medical problems relating to covid, unfortunately and still counting, apparently are now in the "next" category of Post Covid, long haul. 😑
Sick and tired. No answers but many symptoms.
