Paralyzed Diaphragm

Posted by giller198 @giller198, Jul 3, 2018

My name is John and I was diagnosed this past January with a paralyzed right diaphragm. Phrenic nerve damage has been ruled out because of the amount of time between my heart valve surgery and when this started. I still cannot figure how this happened, I have a couple of ideas but nothing conclusive. I have seen two pulmonary doctors and both say there is a surgical procedure that can be done but no guarantee that it will work. I would like to know if anyone out there has been diagnosed with a paralyzed diaphragm and if they had it fixed.

Have had several emergencies since my last post that required intervention and am currently stable enough to post. I was told that transplant is not an option for me due to several negative factors, age, and other health issues being the most critical. My condition is listed as stage 4 (end stage) COPD with advanced bronchiectasis and severe atelectasis (round). I wanted to update what is going on presently and thank everyone for their previous posts. I will post when I can.

@usmccam- Good morning. I hope that today will be another stable day for you and that you will continue to have more of them. I'm very disappointed that you are not a candidate for a transplant. The infections that you have are so stubborn and they just don't want anyone interfering with their presence. They are like cancers, well in a way, kind of... I'll look forward to hearing from you when you next post. Are their TV or videos that you are watching that keep you amused when you are strong enough to watch?

@usmccam, Hi there. I too am sorry to hear of your recent setbacks. I wish like hell you weren't going through this. Still keeping you in my prayers. Haven't posted for a few days because I have been a jurist most of the week on a criminal case. It was sad and emotionally draining. I am pet sitting now for a friend down in Florida, so I will also enjoy this time as a vacation as well. I brought my fishing pole and will try to catch some dinner over the weekend. It lifts my heart when you are able to post your replies, and understand when you can't. Sending you cyber hugs.
