Paralyzed Diaphragm
My name is John and I was diagnosed this past January with a paralyzed right diaphragm. Phrenic nerve damage has been ruled out because of the amount of time between my heart valve surgery and when this started. I still cannot figure how this happened, I have a couple of ideas but nothing conclusive. I have seen two pulmonary doctors and both say there is a surgical procedure that can be done but no guarantee that it will work. I would like to know if anyone out there has been diagnosed with a paralyzed diaphragm and if they had it fixed.

I definitely would get a second opinion at one of the "top-Tier" facilities that cindyhikes mentioned in her post of 9/27. I have left my state twice now and sought out higher levels of care and expertise, would do it again, and am glad that I did. The higher tier in my opinion would be places similar to Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, John Hopkins and Duke. You can research it well to find where and whom has had the most experience. Most sites will also list research that the physicians have published to give you a better idea of their expertise. It takes time and due diligence but well worth it.
