Pain. When weather shifts

Posted by sue417 @sue417, Apr 18, 2025

Hi
Just wondering if others with fibromyalgia suffer severe muscle pain when storms roll in. I have never had this much pain in my back before and we've had storms all day.

Hi
Oh I think so for sure. I am in Canada and Ontario and our barometric pressure has been mental all summer I've had the worst summer with fibro

I had a good summer, but as soon as September hit, I was in trouble. Even had to resort to get a massage 😢

Hi
I had a massage too last week and it really helped a lot. Definitely better when the weather levels out

Fibromyalgia used to be called fibrositis but there is no inflammation associated with it so the name was eventually changed. I remember in the early 1950's our old country doctor told my mother she had fibrositis. I think her mother had it also and I have it. I think great- grandma might have had it , too, based on some of the OLD letters I read. Grandma would say she had to take a "physick" for a certain illness (lumbago, reumatix) and I found some recipes for them in her things. Yikes! Some of the ingredients are scary. They must have worked to some degree because many of those folks were tough. I'm surprised that modern medicine hasn't found a good and effective treatment for fibro. I gave up because everything I take for it has side effects I can't live with.

Hi interesting you say that because I think my grandmother had something I used to have to go over and massage her back and shoulders and legs. She did have a very heavy job at a spark plug plant which she worked out for years but unfortunately she's gone so I can't ask her

I recently realized the change has been extra hard on my body. Yesterday, my arms and back felt like I had been beaten with a baseball bat.

What do you use as rescue meds for pain? My Rheumatologist has me take two Aleve and a muscle relaxer. Feel better!!

I'm in Indiana and the high temps with high humidity has my fibro pain at its worst. I use cold packs for my shoulder and neck pain and anywhere else it's worse. I've had both rotator cuffs operated on and a hip replacement and most recently tarsal tunnel release surgery that didn't work. I'm in more pain in that foot than I had before the surgery. Some days I can't deal with it but got to keep trying to move a little bit.

Hi
That sounds about right. I take one Tylenol arthritis every morning and if I need something more I will take an Aleve in the evening. I used to take cyclobenzaprine every night but I can no longer take it because it interacts with one of my medications but if I get really bad I will take 5 mg at bedtime
