Anyone had experience with OsteoStrong, who is not a franchisee?

Has anyone had experience with OsteoStrong? It suggests you will get a large increase in bone density while using their facility 10 minutes per WEEK. Somewhat pricey at $99 and up per month, but am curious if anyone who is NOT a franchisee, has experienced this program?

I'm 69. Dexa a year ago and last week:
Lumbar spine: T-2.6 -2.7
Z -.06 -.06
BMD .757 .748
Femoral neck T -3.1 -2.9
Z -1.3 -1.1
BMD .509 .525
Total hip: T-2.7 -0.2
Z -1.3 -.5
BMD .613 .704
after 1 year of OTC supplements and the gym vast improvement in hip, but back has no change. I have a painful deteriorating spine as well. How do I get similar improvements in my spine w/o meds? What exercises can I do? I need to see some improvement as the new rheumatologist will only be interested in meds. Is my osteoporosis considered severe? My GP told me I should not be exercising at all!!

Hi @tasha

I am not a physician so I cannot comment on your osteoporosis.
Here is a link to an interview with Dr. Loren Fishman, "More Than Anatomy."

I do take alendronate, and I have been doing Dr. Fishman's 12 Poses everyday for a number of months right now. There is more information about his study and work at http://www.sciataca.org

Another good resource is Bob and Brad's podcast with Sara Meeks, a Physical Therapist who specializes in osteoporosis, "Osteoporosis ...There is Something You Can Do."

I wish you the best,

Teri

Hi @tash, I replied to your post yesterday, but I don't see it here.

Dr. Fishman's 12 Poses vs Osteoporosis improves bone density and there are adaptive poses for those with osteoporosis. Here is the link:

Dr. Fishman's studies can be viewed at http://www.sciataca.org

Also check out Bob and Brad's podcast with Sara Meeks, "Osteoporosis, There is Something You can Do."

Since your back is fragile, Margaret Martin has posted exercises that can be done with compression fractures.

If these links don't work, just Google the names and titles and you'll get them.

I did opt to take alendronate for my osteoporosis.

I wish you the best.

Thank you! These are helpful tips, and I do try Dr Fishborn's video every now and then.
I was also hoping if a medical professional on this site could comment on my bone improvement over the year and if I'm still considered to have severe osteoporosis.

I did Osteostrong for 2 years. Unfortunately I moved from osteopenia to osteoporosis, so it didn’t help me.

Hello, I just thought I would let you know that the members of Mayo Connect are just like you, people experiencing a variety of conditions and learning how to manage. We don't have any medical specialists available to interpret test results - this is something to discuss with your medical team. They can provide a better analysis for you because they will take your total health and other conditions into consideration.
Have you asked the doctor for their opinion of your progress?

Yes, I have a GP who freaked out and said I should NOT be exercising at all! Time for a new GP!
I put my results here because I've seen several comments stating they can't comment because they don't know the numbers.
I will be starting with a personal trainer again, concentrating on my core to hopefully see improvement at next year's dexa.

A personal trainer with medical expertise in osteoporosis would be my priority. My lay person research has led me to understand that Compression fractures of the spine are possible with some core workouts that involve a forward curving spine ( think crunches) .

@tash- I go to an endocrinologist for my osteoporosis. She is great and is the one that reads my results and gives me suggestions on what to do. My GP is great, but isn’t a specialist in bones, so she leaves it up to my endocrinologist.
Good luck to you!!

I am 73 years young 😉 and was diagnosed with osteopenia 3 years ago. I have been physically active most of my adulthood but gradually reduced my exercise in my mid 60’s simply because I lost interest in it and I pursued more sedate activities.
The Covid slowdown in 2020 curtailed some of those activities and I began to exercise by walking everyday, 3 - 5 mikes daily at least 5 days each week.

I joined Osteostrong in my area in April 2022 when it first opened and have been consistent with my weekly sessions.

My Osteostrong reports show that I have increased my strength significantly. I also became acquainted with vibration therapy and purchased a Lifepro vibration platform and use it daily at 30Hz for 15 minutes.

I am due to have another bone density scan this month but I have rescheduled it for March because the Osteostrong staff says it takes 9-12 months to see results.

I am glad that I found this group and will certainly share my results with you in March.

After a fall in 2021 and a T-score of -4.5 I joined Osteostrong and went consistently for 18 months. After a year my bone density was -4.7, but I thought at my age (72) and with such severe osteoporosis that it would take longer to see improvement than one year. I continued with Osteostrong until the doctor I am working with suggested I not continue. He also advised me not to continue with the Silver Sneakers senior exercise program. I think it is because I am so fragile and he thinks either program may lead to fractures. If I had better T-scores I would continue with both, but am being more cautious now. My risk for fracture is extremely high (and I have already had some that I didn't know about).
