Oral thrush treatment's effect on Long Covid fatigue

Posted by raspy @raspy, 1 day ago

I'm 81 and have been dealing with Long Covid fatigue and PEM for 3 1/2 years. I visited my ENT for increasing hoarseness. He discovered thrush and put me on a nystatin rinse for 2 weeks. I'm 3 days in and experiencing much worse fatigue (and headache) which are known side effects. I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and how long the increased fatigue lasted? Did it continue to worsen over the course of the treatment? I'm just wondering what I might expect.

I had extreme hoarseness in addition to constant nasal congestion, phlegm, smell/taste disorder, etc. I didn’t have fatigue. Unsure of yeast.

Were thrush and fatigue your only symptoms?

Not quite sure what you're asking. The hoarseness and thrush are brand new for me. My long-term symptoms are great fatigue, PEM and brain fog. Did you have thrush or treatment with nystatin?

I reacted to the treatment for thrush as well so the dentist had be rinse and gargle with salt water 4-6 times a day.

I use Nystatin .Went through 2 bottles. Didn't get rid of it. I didn't have side effects. Now I brush tongue with baking soda. I have had thrush for over 3 years.

Hello, I'm 80, and each year of long covid brings me more fatigue. I caught covid in November 2022 in the Czech Republic, and have wonderred many times if I might have a diferent strain of covid. My sodium level gets lower each year since and take salt tablets and UREA powder mixed with water to help increase the level with no success.

I wish you success iin gaining your energy level back.

Interesting! and something else to try. Did the salt water gargle work? Do you keep it up indefinitely? Thanks for sharing your experience and advice.

@raspy , no I never had thrush or fatigue. I did have nasal congestion, drainage, phlegm smell/taste disorder and terrible hoarseness. I struggled to conduct business due to constantly clearing my throat. After several years I found plain saline nasal spray cleared up the nasal issues, hoarseness, drainage and phlegm. I use it at least twice a day as maintenance.

@raspy It cleared up the thrush. I did not have to use it indefinitely.
