One step forward, two steps back. My vasovagal nerve

Posted by artist01 @artist01, Jun 1 8:55am

Hello to all my Connect friends.
I kinda' need a boost to my morale (again).
Yesterday at 5:00 a.m., as I was preparing breakfast, I began to feel very sweaty and faint. Headed for the bathroom with BM urgency and soon knew I was blacking out. I should have laid on the bathroom floor to avoid a fall but instead, in my blackout stupor, tried to get to my recliner some 15 steps away. I didn't make it. Total blackout, really hard fall, hit my head on my walker (bleeding) and hit the floor hard, with left shoulder, ribs, knee, and shin. Pressed my life alert once I came to, staff arrived, ambulance took me to hospital. Had at least a dozen x-rays of my left side and a CT head scan. Miracle – no broken bones. E.R.doc wanted to admit me, but I came home by 5:00 p.m. I'm feeling pretty despondent about the frequency of these colitis episodes, plus all my many other issues.

@artist01 Oh no, Laurie. I’m so sorry to hear about this latest episode! This breaks my heart as you’re trying so hard get beyond all this colitis craziness. It’s totally understandable to feel down with these events being all so unpredictable and chaotic!
I’m happy nothing was physically broken but mentally, it sure takes a toll on the psyche. It’s so hard to go from being this strong, capable adult to feeling frail and uncertain. You have my sincerest empathy because I did have a period similar to this and truly, it took everything in me to keep up the positivity!

But I also know how resilient you are from all the conversations I’ve seen as a mentor my past 4 months in Connect. I marvel daily with your drive, the perseverance and determination for life and health. While I thoroughly enjoy engaging with everyone there are members who genuinely feel like close family members… Wishing you peace and love today, Laurie. Next time you feel yourself going over, don’t delay pushing that button!

@loribmt Thanks so much for your caring response, Lori. You are so right about yet another bad episode being very hard on the psyche! My psyche is in more pain than my body today.
My doctor will be phoning at noon so I have a list to go through with her in an effort to alleviate this syndrome. I feel I've been doing everything in my power to stay on a healthy track, and yet there seems to be no good answer. Still fighting The Good Fight. Hugs. Laurie

Hi @artist01 I am sorry about your recent blackout. That sounds just awful.

You will see that I moved your discussion to have the Heart and Blood Health group as the main group so that I could connect you with members like @shenriq, @lisadej1, and @onamission who have chatted about vasovagal syncope.

Here is Mayo's explanation of vasovagal syncope.

@artist01 Do you currently wear compression stockings or take fludrocortisone acetate to help with the blackouts?

@artist01 Good morning, Laurie. I’m like a bad penny…just keep showing up. What does that mean, anyway? It’s an expression my mom used all the time. For me as a kid, finding a penny was a cool thing, and even tarnished it wasn’t bad! I could still use it for buying penny candy. @jakedduck1 would have been proud of me in my childhood. LOL
I’m just popping in to check on you m’dear. Are you feeling any improvement? Was the phone appointment with your doctor beneficial? I sure hope she has some ideas to get you back on your feet again! Sending some luv and hugs… Lori

@loribmt Hi Lori. Seems I'm like a bad penny too, always showing up at the HOSPITAL. Came back a second time, vomiting, passing out, ambulance again. Hospital admission this time. Unable to eat, walk, etc. So discouraging. My G.I. has been summoned for today. – the one who calls me a challenge and not to come back in my second life like this! LOL. The nurse just gave me an anti-nausea med. Doesn't seem to be very effective. By pill, wafer and/or i.v. Love your messages, Lori. Thx.

@artist01 Aw, Laurie. I’m so very sorry to hear you’re back in the hosptial and feeling so wretched! That is the right word for this, wretched. You poor thing!
Nausea is just god-awful. I swear that was the worst part of all my cancer/transplant journey. You have my greatest empathy, dear heart.
Your G.I. doctor at least sounds attentive and has a sense of humor. LOL.

So what would you want to be in your second life? I’ve given that some serious thought over the past years. I’m still not sure…though I feel with my love of shiny things I either was or will return as a crow! Caw Caw.

This past weekend was glorious. We were able to spend 5 wonderful days with our daughter and her husband when they joined us at the lake. We’ve not been together since last August!! 10 months. She and I are super close so the separation has been hard. We made up for lost time. (Thankfully the two men get along great) One of the days she helped plant the window boxes and pots for me as I’m still not allowed to be playing with dirt. Need to be cautious around potential fungal sources. Anyway, I’m posting a pic for you of the gorgeous Hibiscus plants she stuck in my pots!!

Laurie, I will pray extra hard that you feel better soon. Obviously my sending ‘healing vibes’ did nothing…losing my super power? Hehe. Hugs to you!

@loribmt you are so precious, sending all these healing thoughts and (useless) vibes, Lori! Lol. You have your own very tough battle to win. I'm so very happy you were able to finally reunite with your daughter and her husband. I haven't seen my sons for a year but my first-born and his wife plan to come end of June. Like you and your beloved daughter, my 3 sons and I are very close, as are their adult children, my beloved four grandchildren. One is getting married June 10 and I can't go.. Waaah! Hugs, Lori
Take good care of yourself.

@amandaburnett Hello Amanda. Thankyou very much for your message. I'm still in the hospital so my cell phone doesn't want to send or receive sometimes. My poor family (3 sons) keep trying to contact me to find out what's going on and bc I couldn't answer, they of course imagine the worst. Lol.
I'll try to make contact with your three suggested vasovegus folks and hope they might have some ideas for me. My G.I. was here to see me this a.m. and has prescribed Buscopan and Pinaverium. I was on the latter for 3 weeks but stopped it bc I was much more dizzy than before, but he and my doc want me to stay the course. "Feeling dizzy is better than blacking out and injuring myself", say the experts. (easy for them to say! ) lol. Anyway, I'm tough and determined so will do what I'm told. Thanks again, Amanda.

@loribmt i forgot to answer your question on what I'd like to be in my second life. I think I'd make an excellent doctor, since I have so many diseases and conditions, have researched them all so thoroughly, and pretty much know all the answers!!! 🤣😂

REPLY

@loribmt P.S. No, I don't wear compression stocking (yet) nor do I take that particular medication you mentioned. My GI today prescribed Buscoban and Pinaverium, but I think I already told you that. Hugs.

@loribmt. Hi Lori, and @jakedduck, @ess77, @sueinmn , and all you good folks. I'm in the hospital again. I was being assessed for something else in the E.R. and finally told the doctor and nurses, "I feel like I'm having a heart attack." And yes, after all sorts of tests, it was confirmed. How very discouraging! I'll post more later. Hugs to all of you dear people.
Laurie
