Not a good PET scan!!! Cancer has spread to sacrum

Posted by loulou2023 @loulou2023, Aug 30 12:51pm

I have squamous lung cancer. I have already undergone radiation and chemotherapy in 2024 .
following that I got pneumonia, collapse lung, c diff, sepsis and a fib. somehow, I survived all that . I have been recovering from all of that since May .I had a pet scan done yesterday. The results are very upsetting the cancer in my hilar region has grown and new areas of concern are shown in my other lung. The big concern is I had an area in my sacrum, part of your spine, that was very concerning for metastasizing. my question is where do you say enough is enough as far as treatment goes?
I had lung cancer for the first time in 2014 and had a upper left lobectomy .Everything was fine until three years ago when they found another area of cancer in my right upper lung . I had radiation and chemo and immunotherapy done on that, but it returned in another area of of my bronchial intermedius. I had chemo and radiation done in 2024 again.
I am very proud of myself. I have thought a good fight, but I think it may be time to just enjoy the time I have left

@loulou2023, You keep doing what feels right for you. 🙂 This is a good reminder that we get to make our own decisions along the way, and we get to change our minds if the situation warrants it too. I hope you get the information that you need to make decisions that fit your needs and goals. 68 isn't long enough, but I agree, we all know people that have not been as fortunate. Celebrate each day.
I hope that your radiation goes well and is effective in treating the pain. Hugs.

I finished up five sessions of radiation to my sacrum on Friday. Little than I know when I agreed to five instead of 10 it just meant I got five double doses.lol. To sayit kicked my butt is a understatement.

@loulou2023, That's an accomplishment! I'm glad that you made it through the double doses and hope that it ultimately helps. Give yourself time and grace during recovery. Are you still weighing additional treatments options?

I ended up at the Er today. I had a fever of 102.4
Turns out I have pneumonia, a small pneumothorax and pleural effusion. after talking to the pulmonologist, we decided my lungs were stable even with all of that, and he didn’t feel like putting achest tube in would provide much of a benefit.
Concerning new cancer treatments….I am not doing anything. Hospice comes to my house tomorrow

@loulou2023, I hope you are home now and starting to feel better. Pneumonia is tough and was the last thing you needed right now. Your body needs some recovery time. I'm glad your pulmonologist has weighed in, and that you are getting the care that you need.
I hope you had a productive meeting with the hospice staff, and that they are a good match for you and your family. I honor your conviction for doing what's right for you. Big hugs.
