Non Directed Living Donors
I am testing to be non-directed living donor through Mayo. I was wondering if anyone else has done that and if they were approved, what is the average time between approval and surgery? Thank you!

@judithw Interesting. My niece donated a kidney a week and half ago at Mayo Phoenix. She was not offered any binder. She went on Amazon and bought wide band yoga type pants to add a little pressure on her abdomen. A couple of people on the staff who saw her during her stay (she doesn't remember who) also told her that Mayo gives a cute character plushie kidney, to donors but she never received one. She was wheeled into the hall near the nurse's station where staff clapped for her, read a thank you statement, and had her ring a bell. Otherwise, it was a typical hospital stay.
@annebeth
That's so odd about the differences. I did get the kidney stuffy. It actually serves a purpose...placing it during travel, so it protects the incision site. Nothing like a hard braking in a car and a seat belt making hard contact.
I do think it might have a lot to do with what the nurses observe. It would be good if care was consistent (especially between Mayo facilities).
Hope your neice is recovering well. I appreciate her being a living donor. ❤️ and thank you for being a caregiver.❤️

I've been thinking about you all day. I hope the the surgery went ahead as planned and that you are doing well.
Sending prayers and a gently hug.
@rosemarya thank you! Yes, I think it went very well. I’m hoping all went well for my recipient.🤞🏻🙏🏻
I have been up walking twice this evening and am looking forward to getting the Foley out at 5 am tomorrow so walking gets easier.
