Nitrates for Systolic Hypertensio

85 yr old M with 68 yr hx of type l diabetes/ A1c 6.1, well treated hyperlipidemia with statin, BMI 23, known significant CA calcification, but asymptomatic. Lengthly hx of systolic hypertension, initially well controlled with hctz and ACE. More recently Diltiazen CD 180 BID and
Amodipine 5 mg BID added but currnt levels have risen too 155/50 with resting pulse of 58. No lifestyle issues. S. creatinine 1.3 and stable.
Electrolites normal. Last stress echo normal. 24 hour BP monitor verified values. Is a nitrate reasonable to try?
