Anyone using Nicotine patches for Long Covid?

Posted by tgroff @tgroff, Apr 19, 2023

There is lots of discussion on Facebook Long Covid forums about nicotine patches helping with long covid symptoms after a few days of adjustment to the patches. Any thoughts on this?

Latest research - woldwide it seems - is that nicotine is not addictive. Tobacco giants put pyrazine and around 599 other chemicals in cigarettes - these are waht pushes addiction.
Research also shows that nictone has receptors all over our bodies and is in many vegetables.
I lost taste and am not on 2 mgs nicotine in lozenge form. Best to begin with low dose.
Brainfog has lifted and i have more energy. I do notice my sense of smell is back and some taste

I did the nicotine patches for over 6 weeks, working up the dosage. I never had any side effects but I also did not receive any benefits. I have decided that it will come back when it's good and ready or perhaps never.
I am lucky not to have any other lingering issues.

I initially felt much better, but the benefits seemed to decrease over time. The adhesion from the patches was terrible for my skin, so I switched to gum. My only issue was some stomach upset. It was recommended to me (via FB group, Nicotine Test) that you use nicotine and then go off a while and I definitely feel better on it.

sorry to hear there were no benefits. I wonder if we need to be on it longer, take a break,
then resume. I will try that! Onward, cheers, E

lc one yr intense daily headaches used nicotine7mg
fantastic results after 3 weeks only found 14mg
this plus added stress headaches returned
after reading more I will continue but cut patches in half
having trouble sleeping, anxiety and coping poorly as I am so frustrate.
very thankful for the 3 weeks without headaches.
suggested to a friend immediate improvement

Same concept as the supplements NAD+/NADH. Or the Stellate Ganglion Block which is instant relief.

Nad was a temporary mild fix
not worth the $$

I know a person who had success with nicotine patches, so I recently joined a social media group - Renegade Research--#TheNicotineTest Although the information overload in the group can be a bit overwhelming, I have come to realize that this long haul C is definitely legit. It actually helps to realize that perhaps you're not actually loosing your mind because that's exactly how you feel! I do not have a confirmed diagnosis but I am beginning to think LC is what I am experiencing, so I am doing as much research as I can. I plan to see a doctor who is treating LC. All I know is that C along with it's after affects is pure evil and can disrupt your life in a big way!

I've been diagnosed with Post Covid Intersticial lung disease, the shortness of breath is bad but the cough is worse than the SOB sometimes.

Hello Annie, Wanted to share that I found out you cannot cut the patches in half, it makes them release it all at once. Hopefully that will help. I am off of them for a moment, they were out of the smaller dose patches so I got the bigger dose and my skin did not like them at all. I have noticed while off that they do seem to help me alot so looking into the gum and saw a product called pixotine that is toothpicks so may try those. Good luck

I had fatigue and brain fog and started to believe this is how life could be. It was horrible. My friend shared the study of the people and I decided to try the patches. I have worn the lowest dosage patch for four days. I’m still not 100% but I am 1000 times better than I was four days ago. I am an ex smoker and was nervous about starting to crave cigarettes again. I did not crave cigarettes at all. I strongly suggest trying the patch for four days, yes it tingled my skin. I have sensitive skin and it didn’t always want to stay on. I wrapped it on when it was on my wrist. I am now looking to see if I’m supposed to continue it for a fifth day.
The dreams are crazy. They are so vivid. It feels like they’re real. That is my worst side effect. I am someone who is hyper sensitive to medications.

I heard about the Nicotine patches recently from a pharmacist who specializes in functional medicine. I've started with 7 mg, gradually increasing the number of hours I'm wearing it. I can't do more than about 12 hours or I start feeling nauseous. Been using it almost 2 weeks now and I am noticing about 10% less pain, less anxiety, and better sleep (some days). I'm still very fatigued but I'll take the 10% improvement in other areas. Hopefully it will continue to improve.

Hi, I'm new to this group and wanted to ask you how you're feeling now. I see you posted in December so it's been nine months. Praying you continued to improve. I'm nervous about starting on the patches. Doing my research first.

I couldn't tolerate adhesive on patches, so use gum instead. Helps a lot.
