Anyone using Nicotine patches for Long Covid?

Posted by tgroff @tgroff, Apr 19, 2023

There is lots of discussion on Facebook Long Covid forums about nicotine patches helping with long covid symptoms after a few days of adjustment to the patches. Any thoughts on this?

Not heard of this but i will try anything at this point.

I know a person who had success with nicotine patches, so I recently joined a social media group - Renegade Research--#TheNicotineTest Although the information overload in the group can be a bit overwhelming, I have come to realize that this long haul C is definitely legit. It actually helps to realize that perhaps you're not actually loosing your mind because that's exactly how you feel! I do not have a confirmed diagnosis but I am beginning to think LC is what I am experiencing, so I am doing as much research as I can. I plan to see a doctor who is treating LC. All I know is that C along with it's after affects is pure evil and can disrupt your life in a big way!

Thanks for sharing! I was aware that healthy, non-smokers have been using nicotine gum to increase focus well before the pandemic. I bought some nicotine gum a while back but have been hesitant to use it for fear of any bad side effects. Gum seems like a safer starting point than going immediately to a patch though.

Same concept as the supplements NAD+/NADH. Or the Stellate Ganglion Block which is instant relief.

Interested to know if anyone has had Stellate Ganglion Block or NAD/NADH therapy.
Let us know if it helped.

Sensitive skin-- the adhesive on the patch made my skin burn, not the nicotine section of the patch.
Other adhesives also burn my [pain in the neck, stupid, sensitive] skin .
Don't spend too much money on it to start, in case it burns your skin, too.

Too much nicotine can kill. Read the package directions so you don't over dose. Nicotine with caffeine can cause headaches, too high blood pressure, stomach upset.
Go carefully. Use common sense. Observe your own body's reactions, not what somebody else says should be okay. You might be extra sensitive.

Good luck!

Has anyone tried nicotine patches for their long covid? I would be interested to hear your experience - good, bad, whatever.

There is an article with a test on four people and positive results ... but who knows given the small sample size and lack of other literature confirming the efficacy.

i watched a video where a dr. suggested nicotine patches for long covid or wearing as a preventative. he was using 2mg patch. THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE SO TAKE WHATEVER YOU WISH FROM THIS: i've never smoked a cigarette but like the majority of us, we'll try anything. i ordered some patches from amazon and hubby cut the patch into a few strips so i'd start on a low dose and document how i was feeling on it before increasing dose. put the strip on shoulder in morning; by early afternoon i was feeling very stimulated (i've been diagnosed hypomanic on bipolar spectrum for more than 40 yrs.) and i felt the patch was moving me into mania so by then, i gave up on the patch. still waiting for some miracle as i'm on my supplements and antihistamines from reading the survivor corps long haul forum and going on 3 yrs. of symptoms tho over time symptoms have improved. insomnia still an issue even with several sleep meds which i've been on for yrs. and now have food sensitivities and they create dizziness and tingling in feet but i'll take a benadryl after dinner and wake up feeling somewhat normal. would love other's input re nicotine patch.

I tried nicotine patch three times.
I was hopeful because others with my symptoms had gotten a lot of help. Like you, I am very sensitive to nicotine. I couldn’t come up with a dose that was tolerable. I know some say at first you will feel worse, but if you are vomiting, or anxiety is intolerable, it seems wrong to continue.
I might consider gum to try to build a little tolerance....I don’t know.
Good luck to you.
