Newly Diagnosed
I just came across this group and thought I would join and introduce myself. I am 65 years old and about two months ago there was an incidental finding of a 4.5 cm aortic aneurysm. I spent about a month freaking out but have, for the most part, subsequently calmed down. Other than the aneurysm (that feels odd to write) I am in very good health for my age (exercise, eat right, excellent metabolic profile). I have always felt indestructible and even in the months just prior to the finding I was carrying heavy objects and going on hikes that involved scrambling over boulders. As you all know these new limitations are frustrating. However, I have found upsides to my condition, my BP has always been good, except when I freak out which I tended to do often, and now I am finding myself much calmer than I have ever been before. Another upside is that now my wife has to do some of the things I used to do, even though she is dealing with her own health issue.
Thank you for allowing me to express myself here.

I can relate! I just found out on an incidental finding almost 2 months ago I had an ascending aortic aneurysm 4.1 cm. I, too freaked out because I’ve always been so healthy physically (except for osteoporosis). I also found out when I’m stressing, my B/P shoots up. I am calmer now, too, due to adjusting and accepting diagnosis, taking a beta blocker and making a conscious decision if I want to (hopefully) avoid OHS and prevent a sudden death from dissection or rupture, to “let things go.” This has been quite the journey and this group, along with a couple of others has been very educational and helpful. Thank you for sharing.
