New nodule

Posted by ladylennie @ladylennie, 11 hours ago

I had a left upper lobe lobectomy for 2 adenocarcinoma nodules and left lower lobe wedge in February 2024. The lll had aah out to the margin. A nodule was identified in that area 6 months ago 8mm. It was stable though a pet and ct until my April 14 ct. It is now 6.5 x 11 mm and more solid. My oncoligist wants me to wait until July to have a pet. I want it now. He's afraid it may be too small now but I think the mere fact he expects to grow makes me want answers now. The chances that it's malignant are very high and the sooner I know the better. I can't have more surgery and even a bronchoscopy is dangerous for me. I dont know if they'd treat this as a recurrence or a new primary. Im worried.

I’m sorry for your worries and truly appreciate how you feel, I have a similar situation, in 2020 I had a lobectomy for the removal of two nodules and in 2022 a wedge removal for the lower right lobe. I was also told that I can’t have any more surgery, a year ago there was a change in a nodule in the middle right lobe and they did a ct scan last February and it didn’t change so they wanted me to wait one year for the next scan, I said no and they changed it to six months. I hate going through this as I’m sure that you can relate, I really don’t want to go through chemo because I’m weak and I don’t think that I will survive this but perhaps I might try radiation although it’s not easy to deal with either. I find the whole thing so difficult to cope with and stress has taken a toll on me but I’m not in any hurry to stop trying to survive, I pray all the time for help and hope I can endure whatever comes, best wishes.

@ladylennie I'm sorry you have another nodule. I would be worried, too, and not want to wait 3 months for a scan. what is the reason you're limited on surgical options? @kakalena recently posted about having the new Aliya Pulsed Electric Field ablation surgery (in case that could also be helpful for you.)

@mamajite my limit on surgery is lung function. I only have 1/3 of my left lung.

@frouke thank you for your reply. Im now scheduled for my pet in May. If needed I'd like to try the Aliya system or sbrt.

Was this a ground glass nodule that is becoming more solid? If yes, it is very possible that it's a malignancy. GGNs are very slow growing. Mine did not even register on a PET scan until it was larger than
1.5 cm, nothing at all came from a liquid biopsy.

Maybe insist on a new scan at two months.

Yes it was ground glass and is now partly solid. Im pretty sure it's malignant. I'm going ahead with the pet in mid May. And in June I'm consulting with the lead pulmonologist on the Aliya trials in Naples Fl.
