Need help to lower high cholesterol & high triglycerides

Posted by lov @lov, Mar 8, 2020

I have AFib & a pacemaker for sick sinus syndrome. I have been on a vegan diet since Oct. 2019 + 4 meds for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, etc. (flecainide acetate 50 mg, diltiazem hydrocl 180 mg, metoprolol succ 25 mg). I thought very low oil and removing added salt and 'flesh' would help, but not really.
Any ideas...really hesitant of red yeast rice and statins. Thanks, @lov

I take fish oil (Ultimate Omega 2X) 3 capsules, one with each meal, Vitamin D3 1000 IU # one with each meal and Magnesium Citrate 210mg one with each meal. My Triglycerides have dropped into the 70's. Being a vegan you are probably low on all your B vitamins. Make sure the vitamin D3 is Cholecalciferol form.

With your MD's approval, perhaps you can give Keto a go. It works for me.

Good luck!

Just a word of caution regarding LCHF (Keto) diet. I followed a strict LCHF grain-free diet for 3 years and ended up packing on 30 lbs. and had high cholesterol which precipitated my cardiologist to put me on a statin for the very first time in my life. On the other hand, my housemate lost a ton of weight on the LFHC diet.

For me, after 3 years of LFHC diet I switched back to a low fat moderate carb diet and so far have lost 20 lbs. and I’m no longer on a statin. My housemate has gained all his weight back and then some, but then again he eats a lot of junk food in between.

So my point is that everyone responds differently to the same type of diet as we are all unique individuals. What’s good for one may not be necessarily the same for another. Everyone’s mileage will vary so proceed with caution but proceed if you will and if it works out then all the more better. But if it doesn’t work out then that’s okay too and then move on to the next suggestion.

Much luck to you going forward.
