Neck and chest pain after surgery

Posted by lb131 @lb131, Jun 20 6:17pm

Hi! I was diagnosed with SSS/bradycardia, and my traditional pacemaker was implanted 5 days ago. I felt like the pain was gradually subsiding until last night after a short walk, when I started feeling achy and stiff throughout the neck, throat, upper back, and chest. It's not sharp, just pressure and tightness. Mostly feel it when I bend over, cough, or swallow. No fever or other symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, did it improve? I am taking acetaminophen, and also given a few doses of percocet, which I hadn't taken until last night. Of course it's the weekend, so can't visit the doctor. Thanks for any insight you might have!

I'm sorry that you are feeling discomfort as you are recovering from your pacemaker implantation. Please get this checked out - peace of mind as well as assurance that all is OK. Five days is a short time; it takes many months for the scar tissue to form which holds the device in place. I put my arm in a sling for a while whenever I went for a slower-than-my-usual walk to prevent unnecessary movement during the first month or so. Please let us know the outcome!
