Virtual Tours: My plans to lessen the stress of quarantine. Yours?

Posted by bridgegoddess @bridgegoddess, Mar 18, 2020

Hi I am 81 and have a decent diagnosis of PMR and I am currently on a very high dosage of Prednisone I have a very old degree in Pharmacy , and I am very grateful that my memory is still quite good I do know stress is a function that involves our adrenal glands. I know with the current dosage of Prednisone, I do not want to add any additional impact on my adrenal glands So I needed a plan to deal width the issues of social isolation.
Here is the start of my daily routine:

  • Spend some time just seating in my garden on any warmish day . That is a special escape for me , I can sit in a chair and clean one pot at a day Or Not!
  • Phone a minimum of two friends a day
  • Because as a group we are blessed to know how to use the Internet, I am going to visit one place a day One popped instantly to my mind was Switzerland I am not sure why, but I have driven through there twice I know it us stunning beautiful I will revisit the places I saw and see what I missed. So it is an expensive country to visit , but I will have a free trip.

Tomorrow, I will visit Bali ,which was always on my List , but never got there . I can amuse myself for weeks learning new things and enjoying the trip
I will connect with my family in Denmark in a daily basis , even some I have never met , but know through my DNA testing on Ancestry

I want to hear any new suggestions any one has for not feeling isolated, but in fact knowing that we are doing the best thing possible for all of us to avoid exposure

No and yes Most countries have great websites that have travel destinations on their website For Examples, my heritage is Danish and although I have been there several times , the Denmark site has a lots of history etc
Because I am really interested in genealogy, and convinced that those Vikings helped shape my life ( except for their brutality) I am reading all I can about the Vikings And so impressed by their ability to navigate All the way to the east coast of Canada in long boat I saw in the museums Heh they are my relatives and I am just not that tough

Have you watched Neil Oliver’s 3 documentaries on the Vikings He is a Scottish archeologist who does outstanding work He separates them into The Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish and the different area they all travelled to The documentaries Seem harder to find now At one time they were all on Knowledge network but not now I started looking for them, but got distracted by a another documentary he had done

Hi, @bridgegoddess – I like your virtual travel idea. Since our family had to cancel its spring break Caribbean cruise due to the virus, I tried out your virtual travel method last night. One of our ports was going to be St. Martin, so I enjoyed (with a little tear in my eye) visiting some of its beaches virtually.

Sounds like you have a good plan. I also tested on Ancestry as my Mom was adopted. I found her whole family, both sides though she wants no knowledge of them or contact. I however am talking to cousins and 2nd cousins that I've never met, like you are. Isn't it wonderful to connect with them!? I must wait till my mom has passed to contact any of her half siblings (my aunts and uncles) as she doesn't want them to know of her I guess.
But I digress! My stress buster is learning how to sort my Ancestry matches by the Leeds method. My newly discovered 1/2 first cousin says maybe we can use it to place some mystery ppl in our trees! Fascinating hobby for us!
My virtual journey will be to Switzerland, as I now know that is where my biological grandfather was from.
