What helps with diarrhea & nausea after kidney transplant?
I am currently caring for my father who got a cadaver kidney about 2 weeks ago. Although my father is a primary care physician, this is unlike anything he has ever experienced. He doesn't understand much of what is going on. He has had wonderful care, but he is experiencing a great deal of diarrhea and nausea. If you have any experience as someone who is older and has received a kidney, I would love to know any suggestions or experiential anecdotes. I just want my fathers to know that he is okay.

I have noted that several contributors recommended the use of probiotics for controlling diarrhea, where as my clinic has made it clear that only prebiotics (no probiotics) can be taken because the probiotic can lead to infections and sepsis.
What advice does anyone's clinic or doctors have on this subject. Meanwhile keep on keeping on!
@tri327dent I had a liver transplant at Mayo. After a couple of folks suggested a probiotic I checked with my Mayo care team. They told me no for any probiotics. Prebiotics never came up. I am now curious if anyone has asked MAYO about prebiotics as I am required to go by them. If they are letting another transplant patient use prebiotics I will ask my care team too. Thx

What little I know about real nutrition, prebiotics allow the body to produce its own gut probiotics necessary for digestion. (always check any information for facts first) Examples of prebiotics are sour kraut, apples, nuts, etc. Good luck.
