My dad has a mass on bladder and kidney not functioning

Posted by formydad @formydad, Apr 24, 2019

He is getting surgery tomorrow to remove mass have no idea if cancerous- assuming they will send off – doc said removal may”jump start his kidney which he was unaware is not functioning.. he had prostate cancer and has brach treatment i believe – that cancers gone but i have been reading that having had radiation for it may lead to bladder cancer – anyone experience this?

@formydad

He has Been ok he’s had lots of nausea but took pill for it – but then he cant sleep cause pill causes insomnia so he’s making decisions between sleep n nausea. He has something on his face dry spot or something by his eye he asked chemo doc he said oh prob something from chemo😳 – but never said what it was… my moms been putting lotion on it… i asked how his apt went today but never heard back form mom or dad. I know sure theres a lot to consider either way. My mom struggles with him not telling her things like how hes feeling but they work through it- she finally said please just tell me if you need anything because i am asking you too much i know 🙁

@formydad I’m sorry to hear that your dad has to choose between sleeping and nausea! Has he spoken to the doctors about this? Sleep is so important! But so is not feeling sick. 😑. What have the doctors said about this problem?

REPLY

Not much- i think he is choosing sleep 🙂

@formydad You might want to follow the discussion on https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/ostomy-adapting-to-life-after-colostomy-ileostomy-or-urostomy/. Your dad will most probably have a urostomy or ileostomy after surgery. They will get lots of education while in the hospital. Join them when you can and keep asking questions from members on Connect. How are you feeling right now?

@formydad I hope all has been going well for your dad (and you and your mother). Has you Dad been tolerating the chemotherapy ok? I know the surgery is coming up (or already happened), so how is everyone doing? Anything you want members to help you with. Tell your dad that we’re all giving cyber hugs!

He’s doing ok- now- he had finished with chemo on the 19th- of September about a week ago he wasn't feeling well when he went to see chemo doc for an apt- but he didn't listen to his lungs or x ray him- he woke up one morning with his arm swollen- ? Didn't know why- went to er after sitting there from ten-am to- like 6 pm they diagnosed him with pneumonia he was in the hospital for two days – never did get an answer for swollen arm..then went home with antibiotics and is feeling better just this week he had a test to prepare for the surgery and they also i think showed them options on what appliance he could have ect. My mom was with him- i told them to record on their phone so they could refer back to any info that may have overwhelmed but they forgot 😊but he still has a rattle in his chest so he is not sure as of yet if they will postpone or not. Thanks for thinking of them! I send everything on to them info wise- i’d like to make a book up for them to refer to somehow-but im sure hospital will do something at least id hope they would. So we wait 🙂 thanks again! I will pass on the cyber hugs FOR sure! ❤️

@formydad That’s tough that they had to postpone the surgery. But it gives your dad a chance to get over the pneumonia . The anesthesiologist was right to postpone. You dad can use this time to get a little stronger! Please let me know how he’s doing in the coming days

@tdrohan, I had a cystoscopy 8 years ago. It was performed by a urologist, and I did not have any complications afterward. I don't remember undergoing the procedure at all, so I have located some information in Mayo Clinic Patient Care & Health Information>Tests & Procedures. https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/cystoscopy/about/pac-20393694
Hope all goes smoothly for you.
