Meningioma: Anyone else? I'm frightened

Posted by pixie49247 @pixie49247, May 12, 2023

I just found out I have a Meningioma tumor from a MRI I had for something else. Doctor said they are almost always benign and am going to get an appointment with a neurologist. Anyone else have one of these. I’m getting very frightened now.

@piperleah its so hard for our loved ones to really understand till they are lying in a uncomfortable sofa, couch, bed hard as a rock thing taking turns watching over you every night and taking shifts as to whos up next. they need to watch some videos now so if and when the time comes they dont shy away or cant handle things as they are meant to do. i was lucky first go around and it was costly on family, taxed their life styles and energy and so much more, my best advice is get connected in prayer chains and group prayer chains , they really work. I'm sending you a prayer now and good vibes-------------sent. have a blessed evening

@edeval4 ... ironically, I also recently suffered from a fall, and a broken right shoulder. I agree that it was...is awful! The fall was last November. Now, in March, I do not have complete range of motion. It still hurts. Your note gives me hope that continuing PT will allow me tp "heal beautifully"!
It is sobering that your neurosurgeons think that your husband's gamma ray treatment for meningioma may have caused his glioblastoma! I am scheduled for gamma ray surgery in April for a meningioma, which is pressing on my frontal lobe. Did the Neurosurgeons site other cases where a glioblastoma occurred following radiologic intervention? Or, were they just 'musing'?

@janeelaine The shoulder took a very long time to get full range of motion or at least 90%. I did take vitamin K and D3 during the healing and still do but not as frequently. They say K heals bones. It's only been 4 months healing for you. You have some time before you feel it improving. I practiced putting my arm up onto my steering wheel in my car and pushing the gear shift. It was so painful at 4 months but I was motivated to drive again. I would say at 8 months I felt like I could do so much more. Yes, unfortunately, two neurosurgeons from Weill Cornell NY Presbyterian in NYC said his glioblatoma was probably caused by the gamma ray. It is a side effect they told him but they were surprised that it grew so quickly in ten years. They said if it happens(doesn't always happen so have faith) you would see a glioblastoma over 15-20 years. Believe me, I really considered and weighed my options before radio surgery bc of what he went through but I am 69 now. I really didn't want to go through brain surgery. They felt confident enough bc its size is small that they could prevent it from growing anymore. I got more than one opinion from a neurosurgeon and they all felt the same way so I went with it. We have to pray to God that everything will be okay and just monitor it. My prayers go out to you that the gamma ray will be successful and you won't have to stress over this. I try not to think about it during the year, only when it's time for the MRI do I get anxious. We have to live the best lives we can in the meantime.

@janeelaine Yes, I broke my right shoulder. It was God awful. Went to three orthopedic docs and all three said I should just let it heal and not replace. So, that's what I did and Im so thankful to God that it did heal beautifully. It took about 8 months to a year of PT for me to function normally again but I am back to normal. Let's pray the M stays the same or recedes. My husband died of a glioblastoma 7 years ago and that's my biggest fear from the radio surgery. He had gamma ray surgery about 10 years before he died for an AVM they found in his brain. The neurosurgeons believe the gamma rays caused the glioblastoma. What is the liklehood that two people living in the same house both got tumors in the brain? It makes you wonder. Docs don't have answers only try to help you live as long as you can comfortably.

@staywell: A small meningioma, not pressing into the brain, is nothing to worry about for now. It can grow, so keep track of it... or it can stay the same, or recede.

But, did you break anything when you fell? Most important is getting better from what sounds like a terrible accident!. Janelaine

I too found out I had a M incidentally January 2024 after a fall in which I broke my shoulder and hit my head. Mine was small so they say and in the dura(lining). Hadn't infiltrated my brain. They monitored it with 6 month MRIs and seeing it grew a little bit a year later recommended radio surgery to try and shrink or prevent from growing further. I had it done June 2025. Six months later, in Dec. 2025, I had another MRI to see if it's working and there was no new growth. I have to go back in a year for another MRI and will continue to monitor every year in hopes it shrinks or goes away. I pray to God everyday it never grows and is stable. It is very scary and I wish you much strength and success with yours. Everyone's M is different and I hope yours is minor.

I also have one which was found after I fainted and fell 2 flights of stairs. I got knocked out. Don’t remember the scans. The fall was not from the meningioma.. Yes. It was a terrifying diagnosis. I see a Neurologist. Due for scans next week.I was told it is very small and to try not to be upset. Easier said than done.. I hope you get a positive report.

@randallshields56 Hi Randy! I understand with the meds I have the same one Dr gives me a med and not sure he’s checked out why this med can’t work because of my other conditions

@jackie2k correct again. i have a few doctors that are regular and keep me on the same diet of pills, i know if i can lose a couple my health and thinking will be better and already is to a large margin, or should i say i see improvement anyway. my caregivers are nervous about my decision and one of them pushed me to the limit yesterday seeing if i was going to have an attack. i did not and that's because of my controlling the events at my speed. no pressure sequence. i am getting to go out to more places and get away from the house with my caregiver which makes the days better. here i am off subject again. doctors prescribe too many drugs that we don't need, leave it at that. well have a great weekend and a blessed day.
