Medicare and Mayo Clinic: What does Medicare cover?
I recently heard that the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic does not accept Medicare. Can any members who have attended the Florida Clinic verify this? Many thanks!

Hi Art,
You did it! I'm sorry to hear that registering and signing in to Mayo Clinic Connect took more work than you wished to invest in. I can help.
Did you have a question:
- about Mayo Clinic and insurance?
- for your doctor at Mayo Clinic on the patient portal?
or
- to ask other patients and connect with someone with the same condition on Mayo Clinic Connect?
Feel free to answer here or to send me a private message using this form: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/contact-a-community-moderator/

2 ReactionsI have Medicare part A & B and Tricare for Life, I have tried numerous times to acquire a PCP in Jacksonville and have been turned away or even not had my phone calls returned. This was in 2005 early in the year I even asked if I could PAY and become a member of the Concierge program but I was told it was not for me, it was for employed individuals only, making me feel I was TOO old to even pay for this. Lastly, when I tried several times to get a PCP, I was told they didn't have enough doctors and there was no waiting list. I was willing to go Concierge at that time it was $15,000.00 a year, I would have paid it. My parents both lived in Michigan and for the last 10-15 years of their lives would have their physicals done in Rochester, MN, would stay for 3 days and get the most comprehensive physicals imaginable, then their PCP at home would initiate their care. I had the upmost respect for MAYO until these last 2 years trying just to get in the door. I did get in but only thru a referral from an Orthopedic Dr., but asking for a PCP and to go there for all my care has not been possible. I was very disappointed......and continue to be.
I have known several people who have had a Mayo physician as their PCP or went through the Concierge program. They no longer do as they were told that Mayo doesn't do much of this any longer as they as so busy. My husband has been treated at Mayo Rochester for the past 11-12 years for prostate cancer. His urologist is who we consider his PCP and if something shows up on any test, image, etc., (of which he has every 3 months), the urologist or team member is the one who makes the referral to whichever department at Mayo needs to be contacted. I was a patient for several years due to an abnormal mammogram and the need for a biopsy. Thankfully no cancer was found and after a couple of years of follow-up was asked to continue my care locally as Mayo wanted to keep the limited spots they had for other patients who might need more care than I did. Although I was dissapointed I understood.
