I have known several people who have had a Mayo physician as their PCP or went through the Concierge program. They no longer do as they were told that Mayo doesn't do much of this any longer as they as so busy. My husband has been treated at Mayo Rochester for the past 11-12 years for prostate cancer. His urologist is who we consider his PCP and if something shows up on any test, image, etc., (of which he has every 3 months), the urologist or team member is the one who makes the referral to whichever department at Mayo needs to be contacted. I was a patient for several years due to an abnormal mammogram and the need for a biopsy. Thankfully no cancer was found and after a couple of years of follow-up was asked to continue my care locally as Mayo wanted to keep the limited spots they had for other patients who might need more care than I did. Although I was dissapointed I understood.
