Mayo Educational Visit with Post COVID Clinic

Posted by baker00l @baker00l, Jan 4 5:48pm

Has anyone attended the Mayo Educational Visit with other COVID survivors? It is scheduled from 8:15-5 for two days straight. Are there any breaks? As a long hauler I am concerned about lasting that long without a rest.

Good question, @baker00l. With fatigue being one of the most common symptoms of Post-COVID Syndrome, I can imagine that you would be concerned about the length of the days. Here's more information about what you can expect at the classes next week and beyond.

You will take part in 2 small group sessions virtually with a nurse, healthy living program staff, and other participants who have post-COVID syndrome. There are 4 hour-long sessions on each day with breaks in between. You'll learn about post-COVID syndrome and how to manage symptoms, as well as be able to share your experiences with each other.

At the end of the 2 days, you will be connected with a Wellness Coach for one-on-one coaching sessions for 12 weeks. A nurse will also stay connected with you for virtual follow up visits alongside the coaching sessions.

@shmorri4424 @ldropps may be able to add insight from their experiences at the clinic.

Baker, I'll be very interested to hear your experiences with the program. I hope you'll return to tell others. Please let fellow participants know that they can also continue to connect with you and others here on Mayo Clinic Connect's Post-COVID Recovery support group.

@baker00l I was worried about the class length as well, but there are breaks. I would however recommend that you not plan anything else for the day. Once class was done I found myself mentally exhausted. At the end of the classes I was also a little disappointed. I guess I was hoping for something totally revolutionary, but I am doing what they recommended and it's helping. It may seem simple – do these stretches, take everything slow and build up, but it's worth a shot to try. I was told that most people have some improvement.

Hi! Thanks for your response! This is an on-site class, correct? My schedule says in the Mayo building? Would you please clarify what is virtual?

Thanks for your feedback Laura. I will take care to limit my activities after the class. Did you have any time to get to know the other participants? I am looking forward to actually meeting others like me. Also have you started the 12 week wellness visits yet?

@baker00l We were able to each do an introduction and ask any questions we had. I do wish we were more connected though. I wonder how others that were in my class are doing.

I've had three wellness visits so far. I find them really helpful. I'm working on not needing so much sleep. My body is now used to getting into bed at 6 or 7pm so I'm getting 10 to 12 hours of sleep. My goal is 9. We've figured out some things I can do while I'm tired, but not wanting to go to bed.

Thanks so much for this information Laura! 😁 Perhaps you and I can keep chatting as we go thru this? I would like to have a rehab buddy to discuss things.
Also you mentioned that you were hoping for something new and revolutionary in your earlier post. While I also continue to search for revolutionary ideas, 4 of the 6 methods that doctors have advised me to try, have been simple lifestyle changes. I am shocked by the improvement that those 4 simple things accomplished. I think the key is for our doctors to give us just the right changes to help our individual challenges. Are you on Facebook? If so, instant message me and we can talk more. Look for Lee Ann Baker. Works at Siemens.

@baker00l Yep, I'm on Facebook. I think I'm the only Laura Dropps in the Midwest, one of only three or four in the USA. It would be nice to connect with someone. Thank you for suggesting it.

Lee Ann and Laura (ldropp), I also hope you'll continue to connect here and encourage others on the road to recovery. 🙂 Happy CONNECTing.

Colleen, is there a way to be connected to the wellness meetings? Ric has tried to get into Mayo to be seen but was denied due to his not having been tested for covid after he had it in Feb '20 and he has been fully vaccinated so now doesn't qualify for admission in the protocol. Any help here would be HUGELY appreciated!
