MAC Medication Side Effects

Posted by macsucks @macsucks, 3 days ago

I am on the following and seem to be tolerating it well.
Ethambutol 400 mg. 4X Morning
Rifampin 300 mg. 2X Morning
Clarithromycin 500 mg. 1X Morning 1X Evening

Except: Mild stomach issue. Not really nausea or stomach ache. Just an underlying feeling of something different. More of somewhat of an awareness of my stomach other being hungry or full. Can't really put my finger on it. Justca different feeling. It does seem to be curbing my appetite and I have lost some weight. I usually put on 10 ponds during the winter. Just wondering if anyone experiencing anything like this.

I am going to stop all MAC meds. This treatment is ridiculous. Nothing but voodoo.

@macsucks It sounds like you are on the right track to beat this infection - why are you going to quit?

Not related to this discussion but because I no longer see Mullein tea conversation: does anyone else find mullein tea effective but distasteful? Any suggestions for making it easier to drink if you really don't care for it? I tried sprinkling in ground cinnamon and cloves but the strong tea taste prevails. Thanks.

@sueinmn My stomach has gotten progressively worse over the last week. Losing weight as a result of loss of appetite. I am not going to go to an ophthalmologist every 1-2 months. I am 75 years old. I tested positive in school with those skin tests but nothing was ever done. I guess it was because I had a grandparent that had TB.
I would rather have a shorter life than feeling lousy and possibly having vision issues. Again, I think theses docs are witch doctors.

@snoei I agree the tea lacks some zip. I’ve also steeped a caffeine free peppermint tea with the Mullein, that makes a big difference for me. Hope this helps.

@macsucks I'm sorry you feel that way. Do you plan to continue nebulizing and clearing your lungs? That might be enough to keep the infection suppressed if it is not severe.

@sueinmn Yes, I plan on keeping up with the nebulizing. That has no ill affects.
