lung nodules

Has anyone been told they have lung nodules that were incidental findings while undergoing routine testing?

My nodule was discovered a couple of years ago by chance. So far it has been stable as determined by a CT scan. Good to hear on this forum that I am not the only one!

@fotula Hello, I popped in to say that lung nodules can mean many things - or nothing.
When a radiologist reads a CT, they report all of their "findings" to the doctor - not having the patient's medical history in had, they do not know what might be significant.

Some causes of nodules - "artifacts" of prior pneumonia, other lung infections or long-term exposure to substances like sawdust or paper dust, indication of a current infection, evidence of some lung conditions, and (rarely) cancer.

Your primary should be made aware of this CT, evaluate and refer you if necessary. The most usual approach with small nodules is "watch and wait" - with a repeat image in 3, 6 or 12 months depending on your other health issues and risks.

What did your provider have to say?

My provider said just watch and see . They have been stable for several years now. I am a former smoker so I assume that is the cause of mine. Thankfully I quit many years ago.

In fact it seems like nodules are part of aging. I was
told not toworry They are so small that Iwill out live
them. This answer does not make me confident.

Has anyone heard this response?

Here is what Cleveland Clinic has to say about lung nodules - it appears half of all adults have them, and I am willing to guess that the older we get, the more likely we are to have them.

Mine are the result of many infections and a lung condition called Bronchiectasis. When the infection was active, the scans were repeated every 6 months. Now, it is every 2-3 years - as much to see if the bronchiectasis is progressing or the infection has returned as to look for changes in the nodules.

They found lung nodules just prior to my ablation. Said they look stable. However, no prior X-rays for comparison. Never smoked. I also have cysts on my kidneys and other places in my body. Wouldn’t doubt if they’re really cysts after all. 81 yrs old.

Five nodules were found incidentally while having a chest X-Ray. I had had a chest x-ray 8 yrs earlier; comparison showed nodules had doubled in size but still small and all ground-glass. I get CT's scans every 6-months for the next year, then 6-12 month intervals. The first 6-month scan showed No Change in size or shape and one had even disappeared ....i am a former smoker, stopped about 15 years ago, so we are watching closely.
