Low dose of lyrica for chronic pain from nervous system dysfunction

Posted by bealillie @bealillie, Dec 17, 2025

I have seen many doctors for what has become chronic full body pain (and nerve pain swelling in feet and legs from initial ankle tendinitis)-st this point the only new medical issue are highly abnormal liver enzyme tests. This means that I need to stop taking Tylenol which is the only thing that helps pain.

Apart from getting liver checked, the doctor would like to prescribe low dose 25 mg Lyrica , which I’ve not reacted well to in the past.
I am very med sensitive take only LDN which has yet to help at all
Looking for feedback on tolerance and side effects of Lyrica, eg sedative effect and weight gain both of which I don’t need ! But if it helps…
Thanks

I take PreGabalin 75mg 3 x per day. Only side effect is ED. Would be really hard on your credit card without insurance.

I have also been prescribed Lyrica for neuropathy pain. Unfortunately did not tolerate it: dizziness, nausea, head aches and no pain relief whatsoever. Had to stop taking it. But I know that some poeple respond to it really well.

I am afraid, the only way is to try it and observe the reaction to it. One has to start on a very low dose and if tolerated, gradually increase.

Same goes for getting off the meds again. Slow decrease until stopping it in order to prevent withdrawal symptoms.

Good luck!

I'm on lyrica 100 milligrams three times a day the doctor thought it would help more than gabapentin. I haven't noticed any difference in any of my issues taking it. I haven't gained any weight at all. I think if anything it caused blurry vision for a few days. I'm still hoping that they will give me something one day that will work for me. And I hope they find something for you to

Baclofen [an analog of Lyrica] is supposed to be helpful for nerve pain. I'd wean off of the Lyrica before trying it tho.

I take 100 mg lyrica once a day. I started at 50 and recently increased. This medication has worked well for me for all over body pain for fibromyalgia and back pain due to degenerative disc disease. It is difficult to get off of and that is a concern but I really need it so I don't stress over that.

@szucker99 I'm glad something is helping you manage the pain. I also have degenerative disc disease as well as bulged herniated disc ,fibromyalgia spinal stenosis and arthritis in my back nuropthy in my legs. The doctor put me on lyrica hydrocodone and cyclobenzaprine as well as steroid Injections but I never not feel pain. I really hope that you feel better one day. I wish we would all be pain free.

I was just prescribed Lyrica for chronic migraines and Fibro pain. I am starting it today. 50 mg 2 x per day. I am worried about the side effects, mostly the weight gain. Here's to the best outcome for both of us!

@szucker99
I always wondered......if you have to take a medication for the rest of your life and that medicine helps you, but it's been known to be addictive......is it even an issue?

I am not having any negative side effects so I am just working with managing my symptoms at this point! I have a spiked issue with my spine issues that just popped up - as those of us with chronic issues know how that works. So all hands on deck right now with PT, heat, Tylenol etc in addition to the lyrica. It isn't a cure all but it keeps the underlying base pain from a 6 to a 3. But I still have to work around this additional issue a bit. If that makes any sense.
