Low blood pressure and fainting

Posted by roadkings @roadkings, 1 day ago

My 20 year old daughter has experienced low blood pressure and episodes of presyncope and/or fainting and dizziness for the past few years. When she has these episodes, she becomes pail, lethargic and can barely eat. She has had blood work, thyroid check, table top test (for POTS), etc. with no resolution. The fainting can come at any time and has occurred at her place of work and while driving. The doctors state that she has always experienced low blood sugar and to add salt to her diet. I hope someone may have some suggestions as I am beyond upset with the answers we are receiving.

This is absolutely a question for a cardiologist.

We already saw a cardiologist and they could not find any issues. Today we went to another primary and they are suggesting a neurologist.

Wow, this must be so frustrating.

What about an endocrinologist?

Seeing a neurologist is probably the next best option.
Your daughter deserves a thorough diagnostic workup at a medical center
or tertiary clinic if no diagnosis. Has she had all of the tests for orthostatic
hypotension. Are you monitoring her BP at home.? Do you have a glucose
meter?

I agree with this. Firstly, I'm nothing like a medical authority, but I do know, from reading, that the kidneys are a major factor in blood pressure control, and they also control the excretion of excess electrolytes. Has our patient had an RBC for magnesium? Did potassium check out for levels? Kidney function is within normal ranges? Has the Vagus nerve been assessed for 'tone'?

I have had the same experences. I have an idea. Have you checked if she has pre-beats low blood sugar, cause I was very dizzy, lightheaded. Please try a small balanced meal 3 or 4 times a day, that is what cured me.

My son had low blood pressure at times when he was younger. They also did all kinds of testing no answer.
It was his DNA. My dad had low blood pressure in his late 70’s. He always had it.
It happened to my don when he got up.
He was told to march sitting down before he got up. It helped.

Sorry about yr daughter’s condition. It must be frustrating. I went through something like what you describe, and I got over it. What helped me was reading ALL my medical records, realizing I was looking for multiple causes and not just one, and then getting one of my meds out of my system. (Repatha)

When I read the records from over time, I realized how brilliant some docs were and how clueless others were, but there were threads to follow. It took a kick in the teeth (loss of drivers license) for me to realize that the only person who could figure this out was me. My advice would be to make the time, check with the daughter constantly. Does she find a particular record true ? Which record is the closest to her reality? And first of all, suspect meds.
