Looking for long-term Transplant success stories

Posted by glm777 @glm777, Dec 9, 2025

My SIL is 37
Transplant at age 20
Recently had biopsy showing inflammation
12 plasma exchange treatments
Now protein in urine
Waiting for antibody blood work to come back.
He and my DD are in their mid 30’s and just found each other less than 2yrs ago. Please give me some hope that my SIL can live many more years!

Good morning from Canada.
I just celebrated my fifth transversary. I had a liver transplant during covid and I'm still alive and kicking. I feel better now than I have in years. I have energy. I have optimism. My numbers are amazing. My new liver and I are getting along. Famously. L❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🍁💪🏒

My husband celebrated 9 years last October 1, of his new-to-him kidney, who we named Kermit. In Gaelic, the name means "free man", which he was, getting off dialysis for almost 6 years before receiving the call. He is doing great!

I am a kidney donor and donated to my cousin 10 years ago when we were both 70. She has been doing just okay due to obesity and mental illness. The kidney, however, continues to function very well. I have had no issues with only one kidney and encourage healthy adults, even 70 year olds to consider a living donation.

Hi, Im not sure what type of transplant He had but I had a Heart in 2018 at Mayo Phoenix. Now coming up on my anniversary in January it will be 8 years and doing great. I have known others who were in the 20–25-year range so as time goes on the treatments for issues get better and better. I even know of one person who got a second heart after 25 years if I recall. So plenty of options. Have you gotten any updates as they look into the inflammation?

I was 56 years old in 2003 when I got my heart transplant at UMC Tucson. I was contacted several years later by the mother of the donor who finally read my letters I sent through the transplant center. We met in person a few weeks later. I have since met my donor's sister and her 4 boys.
After 22 years with no cardiac events, I experienced bracicardia this year (2025) and was taken off metoprol which was keeping my heart rate controlled, but now too low. I have been on various doses of cellcept, tacrolimus and prednisone. My current cellcept dose is 400 mg x bid, tacrolimus 0.5 mg bid. The prednisone was recently added back for a different condition. I get all my treatment and meds at the VA, which has been very good for me.
I feel I have been abundantly blessed, and pray that the blessing will continue for several more years.
