Looking for 7% saline in Toronto for my MAC

Posted by peace @fuzhou701, Feb 7 2:53pm

Hi I am in Toronto. My MAC was diagnosed in March last year, and I started the big 3 treatment in May. My sputum turned negative last August, but became positive again in November, a CT scan in Jan this year shows more nodules in the lungs. I learned about 7% saline from this blog, , but it is hard to find it . I am wondering if Canadian prescription is accepted at US pharmacies or if there's any store cross boarder where I can get this medication without prescription. I can drive there and buy some. Thank you

Has anyone tried a salt cave?? Its hypertonic and supposedly beneficial to people with bronchiectasis.
My concern is how do they clean the air inside the cave after multiple people have used it for 1 hour sessions!

Thank you. This has been a great help!

I had the same issue. I called my insurance company and was told that, since it’s salt, it is available on Amazon for the same price I got it at my pharmacy the first time.

Thank you for your suggestion. It is quite expensive on Amazon.ca. what other option do I have? I have to pay out-of-pocket because it isn't covered by insurance. Is anyone here from Toronto?

Try ringing some of your hospital pharmacies.

You might want to think about joining the Canadian bronchiectasis and NTM support group. They are part of the support group network that will be working along with the bronchiectasis care centers in the US. From a recent conference I attended, it looks like they will also be setting up a similar system in Canada. I believe they meet monthly using Zoom. But it’s best to reach out to the group leader Esther so she can put you on the email list. Just another layer of support!!

I get mine at the Shoppers Drug Mart in Sick Kids Hospital. If you go on one of their 20% off days (February 24 and 25, 2025 with a coupon) you can save some money and get Optimum points as well. Most of the pharmacies located in hospitals should have it. Regular pharmacies don't seem to.
