Long Term places to stay near Mayo Clinic, MN

Posted by beach777 @beach777, Nov 18, 2021

My relative and myself will be coming to Mayo (MN) in December for a long term stay of 6-7 weeks. My relative will be receiving radiation for inoperable high-grade glioma. We are looking for a long term hotel. I have looked into Aspen Suites and Homewood Suites. Does anyone have an opinion on either or somewhere else they would recommend? My relative enjoys watching TV (movies and sports) and would like a wide range of choices of channels. Thank you for your help!

Hi, It’s wonderful you’re able to accompany your relative and stay while undergoing the radiation treatment. The moral support as well as the company will be greatly appreciated, I’m sure. I know it’s another level of stress trying to find a place to stay along with everything else that’s going on. But rest assured, lodging (and food) near the clinic is plentiful.

When I was in Rochester 4 months for a transplant procedure my husband and I lived at the Marriott Residence Inn. https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/rstri-residence-inn-rochester-mayo-clinic-area/
Each unit is a suite with a living room, full kitchen (full sized refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher. There are one and 2 bedroom/2 bath units. There are TVs in the living room and each bedroom with 90? Stations? I know there were several movie and sports stations

Many hotels near the clinic are connected via the subway and skywalks so you’re not out in the elements. Most other hotels will have shuttles to the clinic if needed. Also if staying more than a month, most hotels will offer a lease arrangement, which will omit county and city taxes and room rates are lower.

There are a number of VRBO homes nearby https://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/minnesota/rochester/mayo-clinic

Below are links to the clinic’s guides for hotels, what to bring, and the concierge services. Concierge is invaluable in helping to find lodging and answer questions you might have.

Hopefully some other members will pop in with their experiences in long term lodging. Will this be your first trip to Rochester?

Lori - Thank you for the information. This will be our 2nd trip to Mayo. We were there in October for 2 weeks and stayed at the Rochester Hilton, so we are somewhat familiar with the area. Since our upcoming stay will be much longer, we are looking for a house rental or long-term stay hotel We would also like to bring his cat, so that narrows things down. Both Aspen Suites and Homewood Suites would fit our needs, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with staying at either one of those. Or if there are other suggestions, we would welcome those too. Thank you again.

Hi Beach! I found a great link that provides a list of pet friendly hotels in Rochester. Hopefully there are some other members who have experience with bringing a cat. I do know the Residence Inn allows dogs but, bummer, it doesn’t look as though cats are accepted.

Hello @beach757, there are several options for a long-term stay that are more cost-effective compared to the hotel stay. Below are some options;

Hi @sommerreign, I found a discussion that might give you some good ideas for longterm lodging with your dog.

In this post for Lodging in Jacksonville, FL (link to the entire discussion posted below) I found this reply by @windwalker about staying at Holiday Inn on Beach Blvd because they allowed dogs.

I found that many of the hotels in Rochester allowed dogs so hopefully it’s similar for you in Jacksonville. Best wishes for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!
It would be helpful for other members if you find a good place for lodging. Will you let us know, please?

I'm also tagging fellow member @barnett1766 who may have some ideas to share about finding accommodation at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville that accepts dogs.

@cheyennepeterson from Concierge Services may have additional suggestions.
