Long Covid Fatigue - Exhausting Physically and Mentally
It’s been 14mo. Dealing with Fatigue and migraines. Daily naps help but looking for an explanation on what is going on in my body. Up til now all the Dr. Said it was too early to tell. Today I read The NY Times article’ How Long Covid Exhausts the Body’ by Josh Keller (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/02/19/science/long-covid-causes.html) and for the first time got some explanations on what maybe causing this. Although it is only the beginning of understanding what this virus is capable of, at least it is a start. Very insightful!! Worth reading.

I would like to see comments more recent than 2022; now June 2025. Positive for Covid 2023 & 2024 and EBV 2023 & 2025, plus extreme fatigue CFS.

Low dose naltrexone is helping me with minimizing some of the fatigue...and the pain from inflammation. I still cannot stretch myself too far or will be down for days but I do have more hours I can be active.
Jules, it may be helpful to research what vitamins/minerals etc. Covid patients are low on or what has helped them recover. For example, a few different websites said those with severe Covid or long Covid were low in either iron, B12, or Glutathione. Also there was a girl from the UK that had long Covid and she had an iron IV which cleared up her symptoms but I believe she was low on iron to begin with. Please do your own research and be sure and check with your doctor before adding any new supplement to your daily diet.
Have you checked out the ideas about histamines and mast cells with long covid? The treatments involving OTC antihistamines? There is a mention of it here in the paragraph about Mast Cell Activation Syndrome:

Now more than 4 1/2 years. The symptoms have not improved, but my knowledge of triggers and management has. BUT life moves forward out of synch with my abilities and I still have difficulty, especially with stamina & 'crashes' which put me confined to bed or couch, dark room, excruciating muscle pain in arms & legs, freezing cold, migraine & nausea and activated prior autoimmune issues. Where have all the yard signs and ribboned trees of support for medical staff? Those who have saved lives at the cost of their own in the biggest world wide loss of life event in more than a century are forgotten.
I give myself a B12 shot every month. The weird thing was that my B12 was mid range but my folate was off the charts, which is backwards with what is seen as "normal." Normally, the folate is high if B12 is low and B12 is high if the folate is low...crazy damn virus.
Managing this for me has been very helpful with diet and supplements for histamine intolerance.
Exhausted!!!

This is what I could find:
To understand how folate interferes with B12 shots, consider the following points:
Folate and B12 work together in the body for red blood cell formation.
High levels of folate can mask B12 deficiency symptoms.
Excessive folate may lead to neurological damage if B12 deficiency is present.
B12 shots may be less effective if folate levels are elevated.
It's important to monitor both nutrients for optimal health.
Consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice on supplementation.
As for me, I've taken a B-50 for about 40 years and a weekly, sublingual B-12 pill that is to be held under the tongue for 30 seconds while it melts. My bi-annual blood work shows all is in balance with an excess of B-12. Cardiologist approves of the excess because it can make the difference between life and death in case of a heart attack.
Hope you can find something that works for you.
