Glad to be here in group! My 33 year old son is now established w/Mayo in Jax Fl for receiving a live donor Kidney Transplant! I am thankful for encouragement and would love to also encourage others

1 ReactionThis is fantastic! Could you &/or your son share tips on what you did to find a living kidney donor? I’ve been looking since 2016 to no avail.

3 ReactionsLet me rephrase that! We just established our journey w/Mayo and live donor support. He has not received a kidney. We are in the process of sharing the information provided to our community. We do have people we know lined up to see if they are a match! It just took three months to finally get established into the Mayo Program 😇
I am healthy 51 or donating my kidney to my husband who's 52. I know it'll be painful but any good/bad results doing this. P lease let me know

@chastitynicolemorris @beneita Plesse take some time to also check out out Transplants support group! You will find several threads and conversations there that may be of interest to you as you go through this journey.
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/transplants/ You can put in search criteria in the box and look for kidney only!

Hi Chasity. I donated 3 years ago and experienced no bad results. I had the normal surgical recovery, but was back to home and work (desk) in a few weeks. It was only painful when getting out bed & only for the first couple weeks. It wasn't a known person recipient, so that would be a difference. 2 people recovering in a household will be different, I think. You'll want to be sure to not do too much too early in your healing.

1 Reaction@judithw Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Thank you for donating a kidney to someone in need!
How are you doing today?
Ginger
@gingerw I'm doing good (Thanks for asking)! I've continued to feel as good as I did before the donation.
I originally started testing for my sister, but she received a deceased donor kidney 2 weeks before my Mayo testing dates. I ended up matching with someone else 🙃 on the NKR a couple months later.
For me it was such an easy experience that I often wonder why more folks don't get tested for the registry.

1 Reaction@judithw That's awesome to hear! I never stop being amazed at how people get connected around transplants. My husband received a deceased donor kidney almost 10 years ago, after his two children expressed interest in testing for being a match, but failed to follow through.
There is a lot to go through to be tested to match for someone. And, really, you get to find out so much about yourself, as the transplant team evaluates you as a donor! Just because you may not be a good match for the person you were thinking of, there is someone who would benefit from your gift, and it becomes a "chain".
