Kikuchi-Fujimoto -Mysterious Rare Disease

Posted by purpleradiance @purpleradiance, May 25 6:48pm

Anyone with or know about Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease. It is supposed to be a "self-limiting" inflammatory condition that clears up in four months, but some of the symptoms have continued that are self-debilitating.

Dear John,
Thank you so much for sending this material. I will share it with my daughter's doctor. In addition to Kikuchi-Fujimoto, my daughter also has chronic asthma. I am frustrated that the medical model in the USA doesn't involve doctors from different specialties meeting as a team with the patients and their loved ones. My daughter is a college student whose school is far from our home. She has taken a medical leave and needs more stamina and willpower to continue her studies, even if she were to study locally. Furthermore, the local hospital and student health clinic at her university don't know how to help her. Can anyone tell me if people with Kikuchi-Fujimoto can work or attend college?

I know it must be terribly difficult for you as well as your daughter trying to find something that helps her condition. You are asking a good question - can people with Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease continue to work or attend college. I would think the answer depends on how well the condition/symptoms can be managed so that they can focus on work or college studies. I'm hoping someone with experience may be able to share their thoughts or suggestions.

Mayo Clinic use multidisciplinary teamwork, physician-led governance, and patient-centered healthcare if that is an option. If you would like to seek help from Mayo Clinic, contact one of the appointment offices. The contact information for Minnesota, Arizona and Florida can be found here http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63. There is also a Mayo Clinic Care Network that might be an option closer to her location - https://www.mayoclinic.org/about-mayo-clinic/care-network/network-members.

You might want to look through the list of doctors at this site to see if any are close to your daughter's location - https://www.medifind.com/conditions/kikuchi-disease/2892/doctors. The site also has some 2021 research articles under the Latest Advances button at the top - here's the link - https://www.medifind.com/conditions/kikuchi-disease/2892/treatment-advances.
