Kidney Transplant Eval coming in June.

Posted by slavalle @slavalle, 2 days ago

I live in California and I'm traveling to Phoenix in early June for a Kidney Transplant evaluation. I've multi listed at Mayo and UCSF. Question. I use occasional marijuana gummies 10mg for pain and sleep. I see there is a urinalysis test are they looking for marijuana. Its legal in both states. I haven't had one in about 10 days. I'm not a heavy user. I don't want to be disqualified or have to go to some detox thing. I'm not addicted wouldn't make any sense for me.

If legal I wouldn’t worry. It shows on my transplant records ‘occasional user’ and no-one cares.

@slavalle,
I would assume that you have already listed this usage in the medical records that you have sent in preparation for your visit/evaluation.
With many meds (over counter and prescription) and suplements there is a risk of damage to the transplanted organ that is not a concern for the general population or the legality of a product - there are individual differences with every patient, plus, there are unique concerns when an organ disease, failure, and transplant is involved.
I strongly suggest that you communicate with the transplant dept before your visit. Does that sound like something you could do?
