Kidney stones and drinking 80 to 100 ounces daily.
I’ve had kidney stones removed and was told to drink 80 to 100 ounces of liquids daily. I find it impossible to drink that much, but can only drink half that amount or less. Anybody else out there with the same problems?

Do you mind telling me the dosage of potassium citrate they had you on to try to dissolve stones ? Or was it just prevention? I have large stones and they just put stents in and a prescription for the citrate.. so far nothing seems to be happening. Thanks 🙁
@wishingflower777
It's been a couple of years since I took it. It was a prescription not over the counter. If I remember correctly, they were white & quite large capsules and I took two every morning. I took them as a preventative. As I recall I mostly had surgery to break them up.
Take care,
Jake
Well..I have just been thru a nightmare with kidney stones..I had a 4mm in 2023 and passed it no problem (the Urologist was amazed.. said most people would be double over in pain..but I've had so many horrible gut issues..this was a picnic)..so in June I went back, and he told me that I had only 4 small stones in each kidney .. not to worry .. 2 weeks later after I had been in bed for a week in a fetal position thinking it was another gut issue, I told my boyfriend ..we ought to go to ER.. and we did.. and they did a CT (w/o contrast) and found pneumonia.. no stones..and discharged me..I almost passed out in their restroom as we were leaving and just walked back into ER (which freaked them all out) and said I need to talk to him (theDR)..and told him I was in so much pain I just could not stand it.. and he gave me a morphine shot and redid my diagnosis too include "renal colic".. 2 days later I went back to the Urologist and I was trying to pass a 1.7mm stone!! Thant's 10 Centimeters+.7mm!! ( which everyone says is a large one).. now ..I only had 4 small ones about 2 weeks before.. this time I asked for the ultrasound copy so if I had to go back to the hospital, I could prove I had stones..( all this and the next day I finally made it to my much anticipated 5 month wait to see my new gastro..and while I was there, my sister facebooked me my 95 year old Mother was not long for this world..so I went home and called the Urologist and was arguing about what to do as it was July 3rd and they would be eating hamburgers until the next week.. and I got a face book message from my sister.. MOM HAS DIED.. all this . very disruptive to my conversations with my new gastro .. and why did he tell me I only had 4 small ones.. and then he made me pass it.. for weeks.. passed 4mm of it and then passed the other 6.7... and now I have 8 total all of with are over 6 mm.. so I am keeping myself on Flomax.. and got a referral to another Urologist from my primary care DR (who is an angel) and a prescription for the pain meds.. he wouldn't give me..I really don't appreciate not being told what I was up against.. and also then having to go to a very important gastro appt passing a 10.7 mm stone ..no pain meds.. (wanted to be as alert as possible) and the nurse arguing with me over the phone even as I told her my MOTHER HAS JUST NOW DIED..what is wrong with some of these doctors?.. where is human compassion?? I got extremely traumatized by this..so now the new doctor says he'll just knock me out and get them all out!! Hurray!! I have been in agony for months!! Cheers to my Primary Care team (she cried when she heard this story.. lovely lady, new doctor for me..I just love and appreciate her so much..I always send a thank you card to special doctors like her.. some ae sooo bad.. ) that's my nightmare kidney stone story.. Momma is in a better place for sure..

@standinginfaith you have been through a lot with the gut issues, kidney stones, changing doctors and especially your mother recently passing.
I too am a person of Christian faith and like @pml want to assure you that you’ve been in my thoughts and prayers. I also want to remind you that our God is the creator and giver of all things, including your medical providers. I’d like to focus on that for a bit.
You mentioned that you like your primary care team, that you have a new gastroenterologist and a referral to a new urologist. I hope I understood that correctly. As you are getting established with these providers make sure that they have access to previous medical records. You want all of them to be on the same page regarding your medical history (conditions, medications, treatments, ER visits, pain meds, scans …..). You mentioned the urologist saying he would “knock you out and get them out (the kidney stones)”. Is he talking about a surgical procedure? If so, write down all your questions and get them answered before scheduling anything. You want to make sure that you know “what you are up against” before you proceed.
Please keep us posted on what is happening in your situations. You and your providers are in my prayers for the best treatment outcome possible. You are not alone.

2 ReactionsI can't thank you enough for your kindness and prayers and support and wisdom!! I have a scripture that I use for all of my providers : Proverbs 3:4 So thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man..KJV...God works in mysterious ways.. I am sure He is the reason I am still alive and here!! (Of course I use the healing scriptures and Psalm 91..) Some times we have to go thru a test to have a testimony.. it's the "going thru..".. I pray for the medical care professionals who haven't been the best.. that their hearts would change.. if not for my sake , for everyone else under their care..I think we have some very fine medical professionals out there (I send thank you cards.I do so appreciate good care.. when you've had the not so good you really appreciate the best!!) I really appreciate your advice ..and I will do as you suggested..in fact I have a medical record book for each of my health care providers with my medical records in them..and make lists of questions for every visit (a practice I learned from a really bad experience with the VA and my husband who passed 14 years ago with cancer).also I have a "Medical Records To GO book".. in case I am unable to speak for myself.. it has my vital info in it .. name, address, contacts, religious preference, allergies, medications, previous procedures, and the names and #s of my Primary Care and Specialists and Insurance information.. that way I can just grab it and go .. in the car or by ambulance. Oh I do so appreciate this forum and the support you all give!! It just makes me feel so cared for!! I want to thank you all.. and I am praying for everyone on here.. each one.. that our great God would meet all of their individual needs...Thank you soo much!! Be blessed!!
