What helps with keloid scar after transplant?

Posted by degomez1959 @degomez1959, Feb 14 10:45am

I’m 11 years post liver transplant and have suffered with the most painful scar. I had a Lexus incision. So the top of the scar is running up under my breasts. The keloid is always swollen and red. My liver Dr hasn’t ever seen this neither has my pcp. My dermatologist injected steroids in different places but it didn’t help. I use coconut oil on it several times a day. Can someone please help before I go crazy? Thank you.

I have also used scar tape and cream.

It still hurts after that long? I had a painful keloid scar from my liver transplant. I have the hockey stick scar. It still bothers me when I have to do the tie shoe position. Or even during intimacy. Do the injections help?

The injections made it worse. The injection sites made the scar branch off and formed more keloids. I saw a Dr about laser. He said it might help but couldn’t guarantee and it would take about 5 sessions. It still might not work. $500 per session. I would sure take out a loan if it worked. I’ve read the more you mess with a keloid the worse it gets. This is the only problem I have besides being more tired out easily. I’m grateful for the transplant just not the quality of life I would love to have. Thank you for responding.

My scar 3 years later still hurts a lot sometimes I use lidocaine pads on it mine goes across my whole stomach vertically 10” I have to wear a tight wetsuit top to swim otherwise it really hurts, I love my life it definitely isn’t the same at all and it herniated with a huge mesh repair so that’s even more added pain I’m limited to 20 lbs now ugh 😩

I had a hernia repair with mesh after my 3nd year. They tried to fix the scar but it made it worse. I shouldn’t be complaining. I guess one more thing, My medicine is so high. That’s got to be addressed.
