Is it worth it to come to Mayo for second opinion?

Posted by peach0201 @peach0201, Nov 1, 2023

I’m a 43 y/o female who is in perimenopause. Tons of symptoms but worst is heart palpitations! Having a bad “flare up” of pvcs/pacs. Had loads of tests over the years. Have had one every 3-4 beats and even couplets, etc. for about 6 hours today. Think could be GERD/HH/Vagus nerve as it seems it can be positional. Another theory is hormonal. So I had a huge cry and guess what? They stopped. How weird? Praying they stay at bay cus usually gets worse when tryin to sleep. Anyway today was prob one of the scariest days I’ve ever had. Went to ER. Said nothing they could do for me. Only thing I’ve done differently is tried Metrolopol the last few days… some say that can make things worse. Praying this flare up ends soon. Really affecting my life. Wanting to make appt with Mayo. Hopefully won’t be a long wait. Will they even see me with this “benign” condition? Had six holters past year! Never can catch the “scary runs”. Thanks!

Which Mayo are you going to? All have assistance with accommodations and travel.

If you are going to Mayo Jacksonville there is a Courtyard by Marriott across street (is on Mayo property). Another motel I think Residence Inn couple block away.

Just call the Mayo you are visiting or go on their web sites and you can find that information there to help you.

Hello @peach0201, I'd like to add my welcome to @jc76 and @peaches1234. Mayo Clinic has a great resource to help plan for trips to all of their locations: https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide. You can click through based on where you will be visiting and the various resources like travel, lodging, things to do and transportation will be listed for your location.

@peach0201, have you seen a local cardiologist or asked for a referral for one? You mentioned your visit(s) to the ER, but that is a hard way to get diagnosed as they are treating the acute issues vs. long-term diagnosis. You mentioned they can get worse when you lay down to sleep, is this an every evening issue?

I’ve seen four cardiologists in four different states. Had tons of tests. Things keep kinda gettin worse and nobody seems to be able to help me/ catch anything on my monitors. Hoping Mayo can but doubtful.

I go to Mayo for my PVC's. They are really proactive. Have had every test that is relevant to my condition, will give me a holter whenever I am anxious about it. It is benign, but they will see you if you can get in. They are usually a long wait for new patients.

Ahh ok. Well I live about 6 hours away. Have had four holters just this year alone but they can never catch anything. Is there like a way for me to come and stay for a few days and get several tests? What kind of tests besides monitors did they do? I want to try to get to the root cause not just mask it with medication.
