Iron Depletion in Blood related to COVID?

Posted by stellm @stellm, Jun 11, 2021

Has there been any reports of iron depletion in the blood after receiving the Pfizer vaccine?

I want to follow up with you to see if your labs return to normal after you infusions.

My Hematologist follow-up is 6/7, I will post the results after my appointment.

My special needs son is having the same issues. He actually was sent to a psychiatric unit because of behaviors. They just drugged him up with medication that made him worse. After pushing an iron breakdown because he developed pica we found his saturation was only at 12%! Supplements and iron infusion and we are still dealing with a total personality change and severe body pain. All happened after the pfiezer vaccines.

Hi,
I received the J&J Covid vaccine in March, 2021. By May, 2021 I was becoming increasingly short of breath …. Beginning to impact my activities of daily living. I visited my physician and lab studies revealed a Hgb 7.6, Hct 26.6 , Iron 15 , Iron saturation 3%, Abnormal cell morphology and increased platelets. I started daily doses of Vit-C for iron supplements. Labs drawn in June, 2021 began to move toward normal values . Labs drawn May, 2022 reflect all values ( CBC with diff, cell morphology, iron and iron saturation and ferritin) all within normal.

The only extraneous variable was receiving the Covid vaccine in March 2021.

The adverse reaction self reporting in the UK does reflect occurrences of anemias and blood disorders

Interesting... my husband had 1 Moderna vaccine and developed terrible pain and developed frozen shoulders, hips, wrists, and knee pain within days. The rheumatologist thinks he has developed PMR. He is now on methotrexate and pain meds.

I had a significant drop in iron and hemoglobin between 26/8/2021 to 30/3/2022.
My blood counts and iron reserve are very normal on 26/8/2021 . In between 26/8/2021-30/3/2022, two events happen

1) Pfizer vaccination on 3/9/2021 and 29 9/2/21
2) Exposure to covid infection during family outbreak around 25/2-5/3/2022
Symptoms : skin rash , fever. and mild palpitation. All symptoms resolve during early march

Unfortunately, I didn't have a blood test after the vaccination until 30/3/2022. My blood counts and everything were normal during last blood test 26/8/2021. But according to the blood test on 30/3/2022, I become anemic . Kidney, Liver , TSH , etc are all normal .Except blood counts

I had headache, nausea . during my first dose and head ache 37C, and palpitation during the second dose . The symptoms resolved in less than an hour

After iron rich diet and low dose of iron (1/4 of normal dose of iron liquid). my hemoglobin increase from 90 to 101 and from 6 to ferritin 16 two weeks ago.

I don't have symptoms of anemia Pending for blood test again in two weeks time . My bowel habit is normal, no blood in stools, no pain in stomach etc.

Meanwhile, I need to wait for 30 days for a endoscopy….Personally, I prefer MRI colonoscopy which is less invasive and shorter waiting period I can do it within a week . Well, I have to pay for it as my doctor not willing to organize it because the specialist say MRI not necessary. I think I need to act proactive rather than waiting for another 30 days.

Wondering how to check if anemia is related to either vaccination or previous exposure of covid?

No, I don't have any information on that but I was taking Methotrexate for 3 to 4 years for RA and it caused a severe iron depletion. I already had iron deficiency anemia but it made it much worse. I had to have many blood transfusion. I decided to change my rheumatologist ands. stop it myself. After I stopped methotrexate, I had no more blood transfusion

So is there any test to assure the safety of taking the booster dose from the perspective potential blood disorder

Not that I have heard of and no mention of it on any posts I have seen on this site. Some people are affected in this way and others are not.

I have celiac disease but since being diagnosed over three years ago,I have been gluten free so my iron, hemoglobin and ferratin were climbing after being very low but I just received a new blood test a few months after 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and my levels have gone lower than they were when I was diagnosed with celiac disease! It could ONLY be because of the vaccine!
