Has anyone experienced internal vibrations?

Posted by redladyjoni @redladyjoni, Nov 26, 2018

I started having the only way I can explain it is internal vibrations. I've had them for 3 months now, I went to t hihe ER and they told me it was anxiety. A doctor diagnosed me at a clinic as having Lyme disease I've started a 21-day prescription of Doxycycline I'm on day 7. I went to a psychiatrist a week ago to get something because of my nerves are just over the brink. He prescribed me Gabapentin and Valium I've only been on them a few days.
Has anyone experienced these internal vibrations?I have them almost 24/7 chest neck stomach from the hips down. I have more lab tests that should be in today, but the doctor's office said that they would not call unless there was some abnormality in the lab work.

Hi Rachael. I had covid in Jan last yr this is when it began. Under my feet into my arms chest stomach head. Now it's all over internally. Sometimes has like an electric feeling. I did see 3x neurologist who has done bloods, mri, nerve conduction since all was good they didn't do any biopsy though. Which is why I'm confused as the one neurologist says it's anxiety. What meds have helped u? I trier Lyrica and gabapentin, 5 antidepressants

I'm early in the game... nothing has helped me. I'm doing another consult, mine is isolated to the back of my head only. I'm hoping to try botox to stop the muscles from moving.

Normally they tell you on the portal you will get a response within 48 to 72 hours since they don't want you to use if for medical emergencies. My Mayo doctors have always given me a business card with a phone number to contact their secretary for any followup questions. You might want to send another message on the portal to see if your care team has a number you can call during normal business hours for followup.

@avash I disagree with anxiety being the initial cause (sometimes that's said when a doctor has no cause to provide). Sure having these vibrations attributes to anxiety which can be a normal response when experiencing an abnormal feeling inside the body and not knowing why. Yes, anxiety can upregulate more symptoms and around and around we go, but no, not the sole cause.

I understand the electrical feeling you describe. I only take Pregabalin (Lyrica), it has helped my nerve dysfunction. I am living with and managing Central Sensitization Syndrome (CSS) which is a chronic pain syndrome that produces louder messages to the brain from the body. Its an overreactive Central Nervous System (CNS) that gets upregulated and can produce nerve, muscle, joint, bone pain along with sensory issues. I am mentioning CSS because it has been able to explain some post-COVID symptoms and disorders. Do you mind taking a look at this video presented by Dr. Sletten of the Mayo Clinic?

My hope for you is that your vibrations will be helped a little by a nerve medication, and ultimately dissipate on their own once your CNS calms down. There are lifestyle changes and ways to aid in this.

Will you please let me know your thoughts on the video? What might your next step be?

@rwinney I'm sorry that u have to go through this. Covid caused a lot of problems for us. I tried Lyrica but I had side effects. I have anxiety but I felt gabapentin increased my anxiety abit or maybe I was stressed by taking all those antidepressants that they put me on saying it's anxiety.

@avash You're very welcome, and thank you for your empathy. I learned managing tools while attending Mayo's Pain Rehab Center for 3 weeks and am doing okay. My best advice for you is to learn and rely on self-help tools like diaphragmatic breathing, meditation and mindfulness. If you work at calming your mind and body you may need less medication, which is always the goal, and your symptoms may quiet down a bit.

Distraction, distraction, distraction. I cant stress it enough when dealing with chronic issues. Things like humor, children, animals, talking to a friend (about happy stuff), and focusing on function over feelings. Feelings can take us down a rabbit hole (believe me, I was Bugs Bunny). Physical activity, healthy diet, and knowing that you got this!

I'm glad the video made sense to you. Knowledge is power. 💪

How have you currently been dealing with your symptoms, when they are heightened? What distracts you in the moment?

Hi

Has anyone had vibrations inside their bodies? Sometimes has an electrical current flowing feeling.

Jump to this post

Yes and mine is caused by a rare neurological disorder called Hereditary Nerve Pressure Palsy, it also falls under Charcot-Marie Tooth (CMT). I get electrical flowing feelings every now and then mostly in the left side of my chest and near my groin on the right side. Once I thought is was my cell phone on silence, just vibration. It is a very weird sensation. Now I'm getting internal vibrations through my entire body. My body does not shake I just feel it inside. I hope this will help. I would definitely recommend seeing a Neurologist and suggest Genetic Testing. This is how my condition was found, otherwise I would still be going crazy looking for answers. Good Luck and I hope you find the answers.

@avash I remember how much it sucked when I had to leave my job. It was very difficult adjusting to loss of routine. Keep the faith that you will get back to work. Are you presently on temporary disability?

If you find getting back on track this year proves challenging, here is a link for Mayo Clinic Pain Rehabilitation Center (PRC). PRC helps with nerve disorders, IBS, anxiety, depression, among many other things.

Also, here is a discussion titled SMART Goals and Chronic Pain that you may find helpful while you are working towards getting back on track.

I'm rooting for you! Please reach out with any questions you may have.
