Internal Body Tremors and Tinnitus

Posted by kkinsley @kkinsley, Jun 29, 2021

I am a 47 year old female who has been in very good health most of my life. I work out daily. In January I had sudden elevated blood pressure and feelings of heart racing/palpitations. I was put on 25 mg of Losartan. An Echo and 7 day heart monitor were normal. 3 weeks into taking the medication, I developed ear ringing and feeling shaky. I was switched to Coreg (beta blocker) to see if symptoms improve.

Symptoms progressed to feelings of internal head vibrations/quivering and sometimes into chest and abdomen as well as a feeling of shakiness in my limbs off and on. I had a CT Scan and MRI as well as lots of blood tests including checking thyroid and hormonal/adrenal gland issues. All tests normal. Saw an ENT for the tinnitus and also tell me everything looks normal. Only reference in MRI was that the bilateral anterior inferior cerebellar arteries are coursing in close proximity to their respective 7th and 8th cranial nerves. Neurologist didn't think symptoms were typical of neurological diseases so these are ruled out for now. He isn't sure but only speculation that it's possible arteries have irritated cranial nerves but had no treatment to recommend. I have days when the head and body vibrations are unbearable and days when they are more manageable.

Sleeping is challenging and I started on Gabapentin (Neurontin) at bedtime which has helped my sleep. I am also now off all blood pressure medications and my blood pressure is normal again. I have perplexed my doctors. Seeking any insight here. I am beyond frustrated. Not even sure if the Blood Pressure issues and meds caused this or just coincidence in timing. Seems I have some sort of internal tremors but no tests show why yet.

@nrd1 Thank you for your thoughtful response. I totally agree that the ongoing tests and medications started an unneeded spiral of worry. That is why I went off all the blood pressure medications, perhaps after it did some unwanted damage to my body, because I felt that they weren't really needed. I have also been in perimenopause for almost 3 years so did wonder about hormonal changes causing the palpitations. This was not explored sufficiently by my doctor other than doing some basic hormonal blood tests. I am not working with my ongoing workout activity, healthy eating and supplements to return to my homeostatic state. I will say, however, I do believe I have some nerve/nervous system issue caused by something because of the way the internal vibrations/tremors present. I continue to return to the neurologist to try to determine how to resolve these or perhaps over time they will go away. I am now over 2 months off all medications.

I don’t know what caused it for me but I wasn’t able to sleep because of rapid pulsing tinnitus an hour after I fell asleep and problems with my cpap. I think the insomnia triggered vibrations and migraines but not sure. I have had alot of people praying for me, started liquid IV, and the pain management doctor started me on amitriptyline for the migraines and gabapentin for nerve pain, and my BP had been elevated because of all the pain and lack of sleep, so also increased Lisinopril for that, and I’ve been sleeping better the last couple of nights and everything else seems to have improved. I’m going to go out and test the migraines this morning. I haven’t been able to work for a month.

I am happy to say that my tremors have gone away for now. I had covid in sept. 2023 and the tremors started the next month, Oct. I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days, every possible test was done and they found nothing. I pray they stay away.

Yes the internal pulsating I have has the medical pros stumped. I’ve done all the medical test and they all come back negative. So good luck! And let us know if you have success.

Is this pulsatile tinnitus? My ent said no but I'm not sure. Trying research this myself. Has anyone heard of an x39 stem cell patch? I know Alot of people personally who say they help with pain and tinnitus. This inner trembling or sensation is so uncomfortable and it's on the same side of my body as the motor vibrations in my right ear. Ent did tests in the office said all is good. Anyone use hearing aides that help or anything?

I would highly recommend you go to a Mayo Clinic near you if possible! They use a team approach to get down to a diagnosis!
I had gone to 7 neurogists seeking a diagnosis and got different diagnoses and was prescribed different medications, but kept getting sicker.
I got into a physical therapist who said i needed to go to Mayo, so she called my Primary Care Physician, and the two of them both wrote letters to get me in.
Within 2 days i had a CORRECT diagnosis and was given a prescription that IMMEDIATELY made me feel better!!!

Can I ask how old you were with the onset?

I have the exact same symptoms and it took months for me to figure out it was my body making those vibrations and not something outside me. They were faint at first and mostly noticeable when they woke me up at night. Being so still and quiet made them noticeable. I thought it was machinery vibrations because it was so consistent and regular. I got a new refrigerator, had both HVAC systems serviced and extensively tested, new service duct. I even had the underground piers in my foundation checked thinking they were transferring vibrations from the overpass beyond the bay where I live.

Nope. It's inside and it wasn't until they got stronger that I realized it. I now have them all the time though I can ignore them if I'm physically busy with other things. Haven't slept through a full night in months. As a military retiree (Navy Officer), I have Tricare and honestly, they don't even assign us a doctor. I'm pretty sure it's just good financial policy for them to let us die as quickly as possible so we don't collect our pensions. (only sort of kidding there)

Basically, I'll get better care if I go in there with more information and can simply tell them what they need to do in terms of testing and consults. Has anyone on this thread figured out what they have?

My story is near same. I started experiencing this a few weeks post-Covid in January 2022. I searched my whole house, checked appliances, replaced the exterior HVAC unit, sealed the windows and more. Low frequency related fan noise amplified the situation for me. I was near convinced it was the stereo system from my next door neighbor who parties day and night in his garage which faces my house. That coupled with the fact my whole house is hardwood, seemed to make best sense I could fathom at the time. I went to a primary care doctor, a neurologist, and an ENT (I’m not military so they’re all the same it seems in their wishes for us lol). They all were dismissive and told me it was anxiety. As someone who has endured anxiety all of my life, I knew that it was not even close. More probable was they didn’t have an answer and were going with the nurse practitioner’s original diagnosis. I was, and remain, confident this was a neurological and/or vestibular impact caused by Covid. I saw a neurosurgeon for an unrelated issue, and discussed it with him. He agreed it could be a result of Covid because they are seeing many neurological impacts from the disease but they just don’t know enough about it yet to say for sure what all it can do. I took some Xanax for a few days just to be able to sleep but quickly stopped when I noticed it was making me emotional. No thanks. Eventually it subsided for the most part but I sold the house thinking it would be better to be in a quieter location. I went a whole year without this until last night. I had a respiratory infection (not Covid) this week that I’m nearly recovered from. Not sure if that’s caused a return or what. I didn’t sleep for a few days being sick and my right ear has been congested. I had frequent waking for two days then last night this full on returned with the tremor and pulsing in my back and arms. I am beside myself. I know for certain it’s internal without any question at this point but unfortunately I have no diagnosis. Noise cancelling headphones help some with the auditory component but the internal tremor still persists when wearing. I hope you are doing much better now and have an idea of the cause or a diagnosis. If so, please share! Take care.

Hello John mentor !!!!! I see from the date ,it is such a long time ago .I have tried and better tried to find my way around this ,probably very interesting ,and ,very helpful site /sites ,???but ,my U.K brain ,is not up to complicated excursions just to share the odd word or two , It is by sheer luck and frustration ,that I found you .I have replied to one or two people ,but , I have the feeling that my way of dealing with aches and pains and strange illnesses ,,,I have a couple ,does not fit the serious minded ,I try and ,usually succeed ,with squeezing the life out of problems with my
attitude of mind ,by telling them all to "PUSH OFF" .and eat wine gums .!!!!!! Which my Gist tumour also enjoys . So ,a Yorkshire expression is applicable ,,,,,, Ta Ra then
