Looking for Insurance/Home Health Aids Agencies in California

Posted by parkin41 @parkin41, Sep 27, 2021

Hi everyone, my dad will be moving to California from Florida and he has Long Term Care due to Parkinson's Disease. I was wondering if anyone knows what Insurance provider in California pays the most for HHA (Home Health Aids) and also any reccomendations as far as HHA Agencies I should look into or any tips or advice on doing this transition with the Social Security office.

Hello @parkin41

Do I understand correctly that your dad has long term care insurance? If that is the case, the insurance company may be able to assist you in finding the right care for him in California.

When will he be making this move?

I'm trying to get him better insurance than what he has currently.

I understand now, @parkin41. You might consider asking friends for a referral to a good insurance broker. As others have suggested, you might also call your county's Agency for Aging for a referral.

Is your dad agreeable to moving?

@parkin41 Seeing that you mentioned living in Oakland, that is Alameda County. Here is the website for their senior services. https://www.alamedacountysocialservices.org/our-services/Seniors-and-Disabled/Area-Agency-on-Aging/Area-agency-on-aging

I have found very valuable and timely information when using the AAA sources! An ombudsman is going to be able to help you find a good insurance broker, and offer ideas for getting your dad and mom settled in. As others have mentioned, check with your friends and acquaintances, they might give you names from their parents, also! A cross-country move can be quite intimidating for all involved, and I applaud you in taking this on.

Thanks, I will look into it. I have asked and most have Kaiser Insurance. What is an ombudsman?

An ombudsman is like an advocate for you and your folks. They do a lot of the research and sourcing out the best coverage for your needs. In my experience, because they have access to and knowledge of many different programs/information, they can certainly save you a lot of time when you need help!

Please let me know if I can be of further help. It's tough to get through all this on your own!
