Increasing Lexapro from 5mg to 10mg

My psychiatrist advised me that I could increase my Lexapro from 5mg to 10mg. Since I initially experienced significant side effects (increased anxiety, sleeplessness) when I first started (on it for 22 days), I fear a repeat when I increase the dose. Has anyone else been in similar circumstances? Thanks!

I took Lexapro with no problems for 8 yrs. I was told by a Cardiologist that if we are nervous or anxious about starting a med we will have problems . He said don’t think about it so much. I hope this helps.

I hope you can successfully increase your med, with no problem! If it makes you feel any better, I have never been in such a low SSRI dose! I took 25-50mg of Lexapro for a while. I’ve been on SSRI’s. for almost 40 yrs…. Therefore, I have to switch them up from time to time. My personal variety of “crazy” is OCD. Good luck!!!

Yes unfortunately I fear taking new meds, worried that they will cause bad side effects. and there just never seems to be the right time to have the side effects. I am on 10mg of lexapro and was supposed to go up to 15mg, but instead I am cutting them in half for now so I am only taking 12.5 mg. My psych doesnt like that but he isnt the one that has to deal with the fears and side effects. So I understand your fears. But it seems like the only way for us to feel better is push through to get to the other side.

I am also coming off paxil and stuck at 2.5mg, probably for the same reason... fearful of how I will feel when I am no longer taking it.

Thank you for your encouraging words. I feel the same way; it's a "push," but after 10 days of Lexapro 10mg, the side effects are slowly subsiding- fingers crossed.
