I’m starting Duloxetine for spinal stenosis pain, anyone have success?

@jlk12 I hvw tried them all after prolape op 3 years ago and have terrible nerve pain around my pelvis and rectum. Tried Duloxetine sace me out duting the day been on gabapentin and am weaning myself off it, it doesnt help with pain. I am on Trazodone for sleep and I do get a goods night sleep but sedated the next day. Read that Gabapentin is only good for diabetic pain.

@jlk12 I've been on this horrible med for over 20 years. It's almost impossible to get off of. The feelings of coming off are like going thru withdrawals. I counted beads in the tablets to get down as low dose as I could. I hate this med! It's evil!!

I was on duloxitine (60mg) for many years, along with trazadone and mirtazipine. Did nothing for the pain. Per my doctor, pain will trump any medication like this. The trazadone does help to sleep, as does mirtazipine, which acts as an appetite stimulant. I've lost about 20 lbs since the pain makes me really nauseous. Unfortunately, my chronic lumbar pain makes it impossible to get a good solid night sleep. I've do take 15mg of tramadol which takes the edge off somewhat, but it's considered a lower type of narcotic. Gabapentin 300mg 3x, made me quite loopy during the day so that was stopped. Good luck to you, as I understand the total frustration.

I took Cymbalta for fibromyalgia. I was only on 20mg since I'm very small. It raised by blood pressure too much and didn't help the pain. I hope that you have better luck. Wish you the best.

Just a question - 4 weeks ago I had a spinal injection for my spinal stenosis at a local doctor’s office who specializes in this and came highly recommended and was very nice this after having two very successful injections at the Mayo Clinic. They told me I could drive home and I put ice on the injection sight but did not feel very good. Within 24 hours I had what I thought was sleeping on my neck wrong but could not move my neck and I thought the top of my head was going to blow off. it was a weekend and so I called and went back on that Monday for them to check me and was told that I had probably slept wrong. It has continued - tramadol was what they gave me but it made me sick so I started with Tylenol and heat and it is better. However, it has been a horribly painful month and the only relief I have had is Accupuncture. I am now scared to have another one in the future but just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this?

@loribethp That’s what I’m concerned about . I had to stop Diclofenac because it dangerously raised my BP. No NSAIDS of any kind for me since.
But dulixetine is not an NSAID, so I’m hoping that doesn’t happen.
So far I’ve gone from a starting dose of 30mg to a maintenance dose of 60mg a day . It and the Gabapentin 300 mg three times a have worked wonders!
Time will tell.

@karentheo Tramadol made me constipated so I had to take Citrucel nightly .
It was not really helping with my stenosis pain at the low dose I was on because of the GI effects for me.
So far the Gabapentin and duloxetine are helping very much.
I take care when I take it and not drive if I feel too sleepy upon first taking it.
That settles down after a while and isn’t so sedative thank goodness. I’m glad like have my husband as my driver😊.
